Blown Away!

For decades I have heard about Island Lake being the premiere cat skiing op in the world. When guys like Scot Schmidt and the legendary Craig Kelly were always going there for their pow fix I just had to try it. To say I was Blown Away is putting it lightly. The 5 Star quality food and the private rooms coupled with the impressive terrain I can definitely see why this place has been receiving the accolades for many years.

We hit Island Lake on the third week of March. One would think a little late in the season, let me tell you those were two of the better days I've ever had. With the second day being one for the books as it dumped all day.

Guiding was top notch, awesome cats, incredible lodge and fun vibe. Island lake will not disappoint, trust me it's everything people have been talking about.

Getting to Island Lake last season in January was a dream come true.... The place is legendary for snowboarding and snow. It definitely lived up to the title. The food, lodging and guides are all top knotch... Can't wait to get back there sooner then later.

Unbelievable experience up at Island Lake Lodge. It's amazing how isolated you feel for being so easy to access from Fernie. It's a VIP dream that every snow enthusiast should realize. Number one is the terrain and snow. So much of both for so few guests. I think 36 is the max number of people that would be there at one time...ridiculous for the area that the cats can access. You never go without fresh turns it seems, even when you a night without snow!

I am going back again this year, as my time is limited in the mountains, so I want to ensure I get the value out of my travel time. I know I will be taken care of up at Island Lake. The food is great, the crew of staff is real (very knowledgeable), and the most importantly the snow is deep and light.

This was my first experience cat skiing and it exceeded my expectations. I did a day trip out of Fernie after there had been little snow for a week. It was an adventure just getting to the lodge by snowmobile.

The lodge itself is superbly fitted out, maintaining a rustic feel with an air of luxury. The guests who were there for a week looked to lapping it up. The snowcats were well appointed and there was plenty of food and refreshments to be had between runs as the cat climbed back up.

Snow was mid shin deep and light and dry. The guides were willing to please and found plenty of varied runs with great snow and also had an eye on safety. Overall I couldn't fault the experience - Highly Recommended.

Lavish Cat Skiing

Island Lake provides a lavish cat skiing experience that is almost purr-fect! Island Lake is a very polished operation. They are well organised and the attention to detail regarding the safety aspects is impressive. They’ve put a lot of work into glading to enhance the tree skiing, and the quality of the guiding makes you feel confident that you’re in good hands. If you do a multi-day package you can also enjoy a bit of pampering with quality accommodation, gourmet food, and day spa treatments.
