Very Disappointed

This hotel is owned by South Koreans and the guests are entirely Korean and Australian.

As a consequence there is no Japanese service and atmosphere.
There was a money grabbing mentality and the place was huge and poorly maintained.

The food was a repetitious buffet with ghastly food both breakfast and dinner.

The skiing is good but with so many Westerners now, the freshies are trashed quickly.

I have been to countless Japanese ski resorts over the years and I couldn't wait to leave this one and move to a decent one

To go off pist outside of the ski system you definitely need a guide as the avalance risk is fairly high.

Great powder between the slopes in the forrests.

Perfect slopes for beginners, not challenging for intermediate+.

Great place to ski for 2-4 days.

Good place for families and beginners only. If your looking for pow laps it’s not worth coming here. It is flat and the off piste is not worth riding. Nothing wrong with the resort or the area, it is a beautiful spot but not for powder hounds. Getting here is more effort than it’s worth, u need a car.

Last day of a weeks trip to Aomori Springs. No sun tans to be had here. The sun came out only today. The Powderhounds review is spot on except a few things to note. It snows a lot here even compared to Hokkaido. I would say we have had 1.5M this week. It is a beginners mountain with a real hardcore back country. Bring an armband for your lift ticket as it is a paper system not card.

The Rockwood is the only close accomodation which includes breakfast and lunch in their packages. Just note the WiFi is slow, maybe bring a Sim and a HD with movies as there is only 6 Japanese TV channels.

Puki the Snow God Gave Us Soooo Much Yuki

Sometimes the visibility wasn't so good!
Perfectly deep
Fantastic tree skiing
More trees
Bad visibility again!
To say that we had an epic time whilst we were at Aomori Spring would be a major understatement!! A ripper storm had hit Tohoku, and along with very cold temps the storm brought mammoth amounts of snow (thanks Puki)! You know that feeling when your toes and fingers are beyond frigid, but you're so motivated to push on because the powder skiing is extraordinary!! Thank God for the soaks in the hot onsen at the end of the day!

And the tree skiing at Aomori Spring was remarkable which made the experience all the better. If the gondola and lifts just went a fraction higher, we'd give Aomori Spring an award for lift accessed tree skiing. So if you're willing to do really short hikes, then Aomori Spring is up there as one of the best in Japan! Some of the things going for the tree skiing: minimal low hanging branches; minimal sassa grass and shrubbery relative to some other Japanese ski resorts (so good for early season); variety of spacing; variety of pitch; lots of snow; and negligible competition for the powder.

Like most Japanese ski resorts, the resort would be a bit boring for advanced riders if the snow quality had gone sour for some reason, but the aspect of most of the slopes is favourable to maintaining the snow quality.

Our stay at Aomori Spring was so easy considering the nice ski-in ski-out hotel, and that there were enough English speaking staff around to make life stress-free.

You can check out more on our thoughts on the pros and cons of the resort on the Aomori Spring overview page. Also see our Rockwood Hotel review and our Japan ski resort ratings to see how we compare Aomori Spring to other Japanese ski resorts.

Recently we spent 3 days skiing at this ski resort. It is a hidden gem located at the far north of Honshu. The snow was constant powder and the ski runs sufficient to keep us busy and happy for the 3 days. We stayed at the Rockwood resort hotel which is very comfortable, fabulous onsen and a reasonable western/ Japanese style buffet provided for breakfast and dinner. There is no where else to go! There were no lift lines and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a different Japanese snow experience. Absolutely no night life except night skiing!

Great resort for Beginner and Intermediates

We hired a rental car from Aomori and went to Aomori Springs for a day. Great variety of levels, especially suited to Beginners and Intermediate riders. There is no Australians and plenty of local Japanese people. The night skiing here is probably the best value with quite a few slopes open from 4-9pm and couples(any couples, so you can come with your brother or sister, son or daughter, as long as you come in two) get half price at night, 2800yen for 2 people is not bad at all. We had excellent powder, one of the best I experienced in Japan. Con: No public transport, has to use shuttle at the resort (free for staying guests only), or hire a car. No night life, the resort is 20 mins drive away from the nearest convenience store.
