Utah Powder Tour

This tour takes you to Utah, the powder capital of North America, the home of TRUE blower powder and the biggest annual snowfall in North America. Utah ski areas receive more than 500 inches/13m of the driest snow in the world (700 inches/18m fell in 2011!). The Wasatch Front mountains and the Great Salt Lake work together to create a natural phenomenon with snow that has really low moisture content, which provides the lightest snow in the world.

Utah skiing is something you must experience. It is a snow making factory uniquely created by Mother Nature. When the forecast calls for a storm, get your sleep and prepare for an epic powder day. After a storm it is common to receive an additional 24-36 inches /60-90 cm of snowfall.

With 13 resorts to choose from you are bound to be spoiled. Each resort is different and has its own unique qualities varying between luxury, budget, snow quality and quantity, terrain parks, backcountry access, environmental consciousness and more.

The itinerary is designed to be flexible to allow your guides to chase the best snow and conditions on the day from the 13 Utah ski resorts. You will be centrally located on the edge of Salt Lake City allowing easy access to any of the resorts with just a short drive. For example the major resorts of Snowbird, Alta, Brighton and Solitude are only 20 minutes away from our hotel, located in the Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons.

In addition to the above, DreamSki Adventures guides will be taking you to a special place not many people know about called Powder Mountain.

Powder Mountain has over 5,000 acres of terrain with areas that are never groomed and it has so few people. They have a unique area called ‘Powder Country” that is open with some partially gladed areas that head down to a road with a shuttle that picks you up and transports you back to the lifts. The fresh lines are incredible! They also have another powder section where you pay $15 per snow cat ride to ski virgin snow that is located within the resort. You can do as many laps as you want. Finally they also have a 3,000 acre backcountry cat ski operation for a full day of cat skiing (optional).

The volume of snow is up there with Japan with 500+ inches annually (in 2011 Alta had 700+ inches!!)

Day 1 (Feb 10)
Arrival day into Salt Lake City, Utah where you will be met by your DreamSki guides and join your fellow powder hounds for the adventure that awaits. You are in the most unique ski place in North America where you stay in a metropolitan area of 1.1 million people and have the home of true champagne powder just 20 minutes away! You will have today to relax, settle in and get a good night's rest before it all kicks off!

Day 2-5
Four days will be spent skiing between the ski areas located in the Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood Canyons from your centrally located hotel, only 20 minutes from any of the four resorts in these two canyons. Your guides will use their local knowledge to decide each day which area will offer us the best skiing based on snowfall and weather. In the Little Cottonwood Canyon your guides will be choosing between the world famous laid back 70’s style powder haven of Alta Ski Resort, or its next door neighbour Snowbird. Snowbird  shares the same great snow and terrain but it is the complete opposite in terms of ski culture with its dramatic modernist style buildings. In the Big Cottonwood Canyon you will be skiing Solitude which receives similar snowfall but it has less skier traffic because they don’t receive the hype of the other ski areas. Nightlife opportunities will be available throughout your stay in Salt Lake City including a trip to the best country bar in Utah.

Day 6
A well deserved and probably well needed rest day to come up for air before diving into five more days of skiing Utah’s famous dry powder. You will visit some of the famous sites of Salt Lake City such as Temple Square, famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and the majetic State Capital Building. Also you have the option to go snowmobiling in the Wasatch mountains for those that are up for some more adventure! That evening you travel north of Salt Lake City to Ogden for three nights.

Day 7-9
You will spend the next three days skiing between Snowbasin, home to the 2002 Olympic Downhill races, and Powder Mountain. Again, depending on the weather we will determine where to ski each day. At Powder Mountain you will have the option to go cat skiing. After the third day of skiing we will return to Salt Lake City for our last 3 nights.

Day 10-11
You return to the Little Cottonwood and Big Cottonwood Canyons to ski the areas that present the best snow conditions on the day. By returning to this area after a few days away, it increases the probability of catching the next storm in this area where the storms are the most frequent. Wrap up dinner and night out to celebrate your time together with new life-long friends.

Day 12 (Feb 21)
Say your good byes and transfer to Salt Lake City Airport for your flight home.
