Kiroro Resort is a fabulous spot to base yourself for a Hokkaido powder extravaganza, and now there are in-resort guiding services available so that you can get the absolute best out of Kiroro. WRTs is the official in-house guiding partner of Kiroro Resort. The Kiroro guiding services on offer include:
  • Private Kiroro guiding (you and up to 6 friends)
    • in-bounds and lift accessed sidecountry
    • Kiroro backcountry touring
    • guided day trips from Kiroro to nearby ski resorts
    • if you're in Niseko, head to Kiroro for a guided day trip

There’s a bit of debate about the actual average snowfall per season, but either way, Kiroro is highly renowned as a powder mecca! In the 2015-16 season Kiroro received 18.7 metres of snowfall, which is very impressive considering it was an El Nino (ie bad) season!

One of the potential cons of Kiroro is that to head into the sidecountry you have to register a BC plan and this has rules associated with it that seem to change depending on the mood of the patrol staff. And whether you’re allowed to ride off-piste seems to change frequently. Navigating the patrollers’ wishes can be a little tricky for the average visitor to Kiroro, but a huge advantage of utilising the guiding services of WRTs (the official guiding service of Kiroro) is that the guides have great relationships with the patrollers and the resort and can sort this all out for you. The guides can get you to the snow quicker and find the best conditions from early morning.

Private Guiding

Get together your own group of like-minded riders.

To maximise your days turns, join the guides for laps on the ungroomed inbounds powder zones and lift accessed backcountry. With plenty to offer right from the top lift station the guides can lead you through the access gates into some perfect untouched powder. No hiking required but quick access using the Kiroro lift system.

Focusing on two main zones the WRTs guides will be able to get you out beyond the resort boundary to escape the crowds. Working with a pace that you want, your guide will raise your expectations of what backcountry touring is. With Mt Yoichi on your door step you can move into the alpine for longer vertical to valley floor runs. Or get in some fantastic bowl skiing looking down on the Sea Of Japan in the Nagamine backcountry.

All the guiding products require that you should be able to ski the whole mountain and get down all runs confidently at a reasonable speed and have high-intermediate ability in powder.

You will get the most out of the guiding if you have a good level of fitness, and if you're backcountry touring, a very good level of fitness.

Mixed groups may be split up into ski/board/ability levels.

Whiteroom Tours Terms & Conditions

Guide Bookings Confirmation & Payment Cancellation Policy
Please note that Guide bookings are NOT CONFIRMED until a 20% deposit has been paid. Final balance is due 30 days prior to the start of your booking. You must complete our booking form and Registration/Waiver from before your guided day. Failure to do so will result in the cancelation of your booking.

Guide Bookings Cancellation Policy
Your 20% deposit is non-refundable unless we cancel the guided day due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather or guide injury. Whiteroom Guides will refund your full payment less the 20% deposit if notice is given 30 days prior to your booking date commencement. Whiteroom Guides will refund 50% of your full payment if less than 30 days but more than 7 days notice of cancellation is given. Whiteroom Guides will provide no refund for cancellations less than 7 days prior or a no show on your booked day. If Whiteroom Guides has to cancel your guided day due to adverse weather or other unforeseen circumstances you will be offered another date or a 100% refund.

Backcountry Safety Equipment Requirements
Backcountry safety equipment is compulsory for all participants on any guided day. All of the necessary equipment (transceiver, shovel, probe and backpack) is available to hire. Please advise us if you need this equipment when booking. You may also bring your own gear to use. If your backcountry trip requires alpine touring equipment, split boards or snowshoes we will advise & recommend where the equipment can be rented from if you do not already have your own.

Pre Purchasing Lift Tickets
For day trips we recommend against purchasing lift tickets in advance, as there are no additional cost savings. Pre-purchasing lift tickets may only serve to limit your flexibility. Due to localized weather patterns, conditions can often be much different at nearby resorts & may influence the final destination decision.

Ski / Snowboard Ability Requirements
For private tours, we recommend that you try to have everyone in the group at a similar ability level. This is very important as experience shows that no one wants to be in over their head, holding up a group or alternatively waiting for others to make it down the mountain. However, if you are all happy with a mixed ability group because you are all friends or family members then that is of-course fine with us.

Ski / Snowboard Instruction
Many of the Whiteroom Guides are also qualified instructors but the format of the trips is to ensure you ski great lines, great snow and incredible terrain. All the guides are happy to offer advice and tips to help you improve your skills, but they do not offer straight ski or snowboard lessons. If you are interested specifically in instruction to improve your skills we can recommend booking a ski lesson with some exceptional instructional schools in your area.
