Away From the Gringos

16/09/2022
It was refreshing to get away from the very trodden gringo track of Portillo and Tres Valles, and even Nevados de Chillan is getting a little too popular these days. It was lovely heading to Corralco for a few days where we were pretty much the only gringos and there were lots of fresh lines in-bounds and no lift line frenzy. We also scored some nice weather to go touring.

The hotel was lovely and the service levels were as to be expected for Chile. It sort of felt strange that there was a luxury ski resort at the base, and in contrast, the ski resort itself was primitive and the lifts basic. I guess this helps to help keep the crowds away. There was also no nightlife, just a nice dinner at the hotel, and the lack of partying may also keep many gringos away.

We went as part of a package and the transfers from the Temuco airport to the hotel were arranged and stress-free.

do not waist your time at this ski resort the snow conditions are horrible not enough altitude
to get the pow the lift system is 3rd world they only have 1 real lift the reason their resort is not crowded is because this resort is in the middle of nowhere and not a good ski resort at all
the lodge is the worst lodge i have ever seen at a ski resort they do not groom any trails the snow their is a very wet snow i went their in august so here is my rating system corralco ski resort 0 take my advice go elsewhere

I went to Corralco in springtime. The slopes were already closed however we did some touring in the volcano and could see the potential for skiers. It is heaven for free ride, since the new lift leaves you almost at the top of the volcano, giving you easy access to amazing terrain with araucarias and a volcano as background.

The hotel is amazing, the staff is really friendly and easygoing. I was lucky enough to stay at one of the best rooms there and it was AWESOME! huge bathroom with hot tub inside, big room with all you can think of but a minibar.

If you stay at the hotel try the pisco sour made by Luis, the main bartender. You won't be disappointed.

With the addition of the Valle Corralco Hotel, Corralco is now a newcomer in the luxury ski market in Chile, competing with the likes of Valle Nevado and Portillo. You have to catch an additional flight to get to Corralco, but one key difference is that Corralco is much quieter than the ski resorts near Santiago, so it’s very tranquil and you can pretty much have a ski run to yourself. Corralco doesn’t yet have the same facilities as the other upscale resorts, but these are developing rather rapidly.

See the pros and cons outlined on the Corralco Chile page for more information.
