Santa Teresa
Chilean freeride championship
Valle olimpico
Great off-piste terrain on "Santa teresa", place where the Chilean freeride championship is held.
Excellent powder on the lift served terrain of valle olimpico.

Great mountain experience. Stoked to get to ski there! The room and board was comfortable.

It's a fun ski resort if you're looking to go to "experience" the snow. It's the cheapest definitely. In my opinion is also the one with more different types of persons: you have riders, skiers, families, the rich, the poor, the tourist, the local... on a day to day basis.

It's a good thing that it's in the middle of the three valleys, then you can snoop around the other areas. You gotta be careful though, since you'd have to pay for the ski ticket at the other resorts.

I would recommend it for beginners and tourist who want to have fun for a day.

Not the Highlight of Tres Valles

Pros

  • El Colorado is great for beginners and park dudes and perfect for intermediates.
  • Unlike at La Parva and Valle Nevado, the price of a ski holiday at El Colorado won’t burn as big a hole in your pocket.
  • Unlike at La Parva and Valle Nevado, there is some flexibility regarding the timing and duration of your stay.
  • El Colorado provides the best access to the Farellones chutes and Santa Terasita; backcountry terrain that is accessed via the lifts and road.
  • If staying at El Colorado, it’s easy to access La Parva by road and ski back to El Colorado without having to buy two lift tickets.
  • The two resorts are interconnected under one lift ticket, so you can access El Colorado from the Farellones base area lift system.
  • Closest to Santiago
  • Authentic Chilean experience as it's not frequented by that many international visitors (except the ski racers), unlike Valle Nevado.

Cons

  • There is not much in-bounds terrain for advanced and expert riders.
  • From El Colorado it’s time consuming to access Valle Nevado by road, and if you want to ski over it’s expensive to buy a dual resort pass.
  • El Colorado gets a little less snow than its neighbours.
  • El Colorado doesn’t provide the same dramatic views compared to Valle Nevado and La Parva, and the presence of the lines of wind fences also detracts from the vistas at El Colorado.
  • Basic lift infrastructure
  • Accommodation at El Colorado is expensive for those travelling alone or in pairs.
  • The presence of lines of wind fences also detracts from the vistas at El Colorado.

Pro or Con Depending on Your Perspective

  • El Colorado is very well suited to families considering the mellow slopes and the ski-in ski-out accommodation, although it’s generally not ideal for international visitors who don’t speak fluent Spanish because the ski school group lessons are not in English and there’s no child care.

The person who wrote the review on El Colorado apparently did not ski beyond the first mountain. (Editors note: we definitely skied beyond the first mountain. Also note that this reviewer is an intermediate rider so his perception of steep terrain as per the title may not be the same perception of steep compared with an expert skier)

There are two mountains here and plenty of advanced and intermediate terrain.

Because of its high altitude the snow at the top is often powder or hard when at the bottom there might be ice.
