The Pucon Ski Resort has sufficient facilities to cover the basics for day trippers. The base building near the car park houses the lift ticket office and ski and snowboard equipment rentals. The main day lodge has a cafeteria and ski school and is further up the hill and accessed via a double chair lift.
Eating On Mountain
The upper day lodge has a cafeteria that serves up rather soulless food; hot dogs, hamburgers and the like. There’s also a small bar selling hot chocolates and basic alcoholic beverages. The indoor seating area is large, and there’s also a huge deck outside which is one of the highlights of Ski Pucon. The deck affords amazing views down to the town of Pucon and Lago Villarrica, and up to the top of the volcano. It’s also a great deck for watching the beginners take spectacular stacks!
Pucon Ski Rentals and Snowboard Rental
The ski and snowboard rental outlet at Ski Pucon has reasonably OK gear and clothing that’s more than adequate for the beginners that visit the ski resort. The ski rental rates are reasonably high for the quality that you get, but the quality looks fantastic when you compare it to the gear at the outlets on the access road to the volcano!
There are lots of tourism agencies and shops in Pucon that have ski and snowboard rentals. The majority of these have equipment that looks like it will become antique soon, the type you hang on your ski lodge wall to celebrate a bygone era. Most of the skis are from the 80s or possible the 90s, and some of the shops rent out rear entry boots (although I hear rear entry boots are making a come back!).
Facilities for Children
At the Pucon ski resort there is no formal child care facility, although there is a small derelict unsupervised play room at the main day lodge.
Babysitting can be organised by some of the upscale Pucon hotels such as the
Hotel Antumalal and the Gran Hotel Pucon.
Ski and Snowboard School
There is a ski and snowboard school up at the top day lodge, but unless you speak fluent Spanish you won’t be using it.
Boutique/Ski Shop
The so-called boutique at the base lodge of the Pucon ski resort consisted of a few dusty shelves with sunscreen, goggles, beanies, helmets and a few pairs of snowboard boots. Boutique! Ha!
