Really fun day w silverton powder cats. Pretty mellow skiing with not a lot of vertical or sustained steeps but did get in plenty of runs to compensate. Guides were very laid back and there was very little traversing to the runs. Would definitely go back.

Great Terrain, Great People, Great Value!

Gorgeous Powder Day! Amazing Terrain!
I have been an avid snowboarder for almost 30 years and have much experience in the back country. Silverton Powder Cats are a top notch operation! They are not only knowledgeable about safety and getting you the best lines, but know how to make the clients feel comfortable and just have fun. I rarely write reviews, but after several times with their outfit I felt they truly deserved some good praise. Great Terrain, Great People, Great Value. I would highly recommend Silverton Powder Cats to anyone!

Awesome experience across the board. We did luck into some timing arriving after a 40 inch storm. But the guides did the rest, getting us to the best terrain while staying safe, and getting us as many runs as they could. As other reviews mentioned, lunch was awesome as well.

We did 12 runs and I know I could come back 10 more times and still have terrain to see. Huge variety, no 2 runs alike (other than the glade run we did twice because it was just that fantastic.)

Worth the price tag. Do it.

It doesn't get much better than this...

I am a local who has lived and skied here for 20 years. I am a decent snowboader always made better by those around me. Silverton Powdercats helped me break through from "mediocre" snowboarder to "hey maybe I am better than I thought!". Their knowledge and skill set helped put my fears of the backcountry at ease and showed me how you can elevate your skills in a safe and exciting environment. I cannot recommend this adventure enough! Jimbo, Todd and Jon made skiing in the backcountry an amazing experience. Thanks Silverton Powdecats!!

Silverton Powdercats is MEOW.

This place slays it. The scenery alone is worth the trip. The guides and terrain are both ultra friendly. If you are seeking a true getaway with amazing powder snow, inviting terrain, and true guide' guides, then this place is for you. These guys keep the fun meter on a new high and love what they do.

The benched terrain is cool for many playful reasons and allow both expert and intermediate to play well together in Silverton's vast sandbox. It simply doesn't really get prettier than Colorado's San Juan range.

And the powder is what speaks loudest. Definitely suggest getting some of this little Nirvana. Meow factor= high.

Great Day

Went for a day last spring and had a blast. The guides are awesome and even if the snow had sucked it still would have been fun. But the snow didnt suck and it was such a great day.

The chances of bluebird days are high and the elevation catches a lot of powder days. I am not an expert tele skier but do ok. I thought the terrain was perfect. Not super extreme where we went which was perfect and I felt safe all the time. We had the entire place to ourselves! If you can fit a day in I dont think you would regret it!!!! One of the runs was the best one I have ever had, ever!

Powdercats and powderhounds will get along fabulously well for a day of cat skiing or cat boarding with Silverton Powdercats. Silverton Powdercats makes a great adjunct to skiing at Durango Mountain Resort or Silverton Mountain.

Pros: good volumes of snowfall (we think?); great terrain for intermediates; open meadows so it’s a great place to put the after-burners on; a fast cat and efficient cat tracks so there’s plenty of vertical per day; very relaxed and plenty of fun; good value for money cat skiing; and cheap accommodation nearby.

Cons: if you don’t have your own powder skis, it can be a little tricky to rent a pair; the open terrain is exposed to the mercy of the weather gods so the snow may be crusty; the tenure is not large and there’s not a large amount of really challenging terrain for experts. However with lots of fresh tracks on offer there’s a good chance that experts will be in heaven anyway.
