You Get What you Pay For

Beaver Run touts itself as a luxury resort. Hah! The condo we stayed in was rather old and far from luxurious. Relative to other places at Breckenridge, it doesn’t cost a fortune to stay here, so I guess it’s a case of you get what you pay for, although for a couple it was still pretty expensive.

This resort has some major pros. Its location is a major advantage, near the slopes and lots of other handy facilities such as ski hire and child care. Beaver Run has some major cons too.

The condos have adjoining rooms that seem to be connected with a piece of plywood so you there is no sound insulation, and you can hear absolutely every word that your neighbors are saying. This is not much fun at 3am! Not that we were sleeping much anyway because the bed was one of those cheap beds where the whole beds shakes when your partner rolls over. And it was a narrow double bed, not even a queen. I didn’t realize that any hotel in the 21st century would have a double bed.

We were checked in by a lass who wasn’t particularly helpful. She spoke for about thirty seconds at lightning speed and clearly didn’t care if we were catching on or not. We figured out where the parking was but that was about it. She also proudly gave us a voucher for dinner at Spencer’s where they offer a 20 percent discount on dinner for your first night and 10 percent on subsequent nights. They suck you into thinking this discount is for the whole bill but it's just for the food and not beverages. They then hit you with a 5 percent resort charge on top of the bill (for food AND alcohol), so in the end there’s no discount - you spend more money.

They also get you on the internet with a charge of $10 PER DEVICE per calendar day (not even per 24 hours) if you want internet access in your room.

Awesome Location

The location was extremely convenient to the slopes and a chair lift that generally only had short lift lines. Downtown Breckenridge was also pretty close and we were impressed with the ease of using the complementary shuttle.

We stayed in a one bedroom suite/condo and there was lots of space for the two of us. The condo could sleep up to 5 people (with a double sofa bed and single sofa bed in the living area), and with 5 people the pricing would be very inexpensive.

The condos are all individually owned so they vary a little with regards to décor, and some of the accommodations have been recently refurbished whilst others haven’t. Our suite had a very modern kitchen. Other parts were a little dated, but the accommodation was very functional.

We really liked the Copper Top bar; this was a very vibrant place to hang out for après drinks.

There are more luxurious ski-in ski-out accommodations at Breckenridge, but many of them are not near town, and you’ll pay a pretty penny for them. Beaver Run Resort provides very good value accommodation in a great location.
