Wasatch Powderbird Guides

Heli skiing with Wasatch Powderbird Guides (WPG) is an awe inspiring adventure. The Wasatch Range is legendary for the predictable quality of snow, so the chances of getting the perfect champagne powder day are pretty good.

At the nearby Snowbird ski resort, fresh powder lines are tracked out soon after the lifts open, but in the heli-accessed backcountry there is dry virgin powder for a long, long time.

Heli Skiing and Heli Boarding Packages Wasatch Powderbird Guide’s regular operation is called a “scheduled heli-ski adventure”, and there are also private packages available. Single day packages are offered, with a small discount for booking multiple days. In regards to accommodation, you can organise your own lodgings at Snowbird or Alta, or commute from Salt Lake City or Park City.

Where is Wasatch Powderbird Guides Located? One of only six heli ski operations in continental USA (outside of Alaska), WPG is conveniently located just above the village of Snowbird in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah. Alta ski resort is only a stone’s throw away, and Wasatch Powderbirds provide morning pickups for those staying in the canyon. The proximity of the heliport means that precious skiing time is not sacrificed in having to travel to another staging area.

Salt Lake City airport is only 40 minutes away, and Park City is 45 minutes away, with lots of transport companies offering shuttles between the airport, Park City and Snowbird.

WPG also offer customised heli ski trips to Greenland, Chile, Japan and Turkey.

Heliski Terrain WPG has an exclusive special-use permit for helicopter skiing in the Wasatch, Cache and Uinta National Forests with an area greater than all the Utah ski resorts combined. Some of the terrain is close to the heliport between Little and Big Cotton Canyons, whilst some of it is up to 20 miles away to the north or south.

They have a reputation for providing challenging terrain and hair raising chutes, but you don’t have to be an extreme skier to go (don’t be scared by the videos on the WPG website). Terrain also includes bowls, tree skiing and mellow runs, and they form different groups according to ability (and weight). They can cater for low-end advanced skiers and boarders, but if you’re not sure about your ability then you really want to check with one of the hosts. Anyone who can’t keep up with the rest of the pack will be flown back to base and charged the full day, as well as the cost of the fly in!

About seven runs are provided each day with a total of approximately 14,000 feet (about 4,300m) of vertical. That’s 14,000 feet of quality Utah powder in one day!!

More Reasons to Go Heli-skiing with Wasatch Powderbird Guides Any USA heli skiing experience is fabulous, but the location of Wasatch Powderbirds is what makes this operation a stand-out. The area is world renowned for great quality dry snow, with over 500 inches (12.7 metres) falling annually. Whilst you’ll get a good dose of steep and deep at Snowbird and Alta, two of the best ski resorts in the world for powderhounds, WPG makes a great adjunct to your ski holiday with the ultimate in skiing fresh POW POW.
