On-mountain Alta lodging is available in the sleepy village of Alta Utah. There are definitely no 5 star Alta hotels or luxury resorts, but rather traditional ski lodges and some condos.

Alternatively there is Snowbird lodging at the interlinked ski resort next door.

Alta Lodge Accommodation The five traditional lodges at Alta are an important component of the Alta ski resort experience and history. Most of them are not particularly luxurious, but are very comfortable, super friendly and have a culture of class about them. The people that stay in the lodges often return each year, and are unpretentious and very friendly.

Alta lodging is not super expensive but it’s not suited to those on a budget vacation considering that gourmet multi-course feasts are included in the package. One of the advantages of the provided meals is the opportunity to meet new and interesting people, and listen to Alta folklore.

The Alta lodges are scattered across the base area and are ski-in ski-out, or pretty much close to it. All the lodges are within walking distance of other buildings in the quiet village. Room types vary from dorm rooms to suites. The lodges have facilities such as shuttle buses (around the village e.g. to get to ski school or child care), hot tubs, saunas, lounges, bars and internet access.

It’s just as well that all the lodges have an all-inclusive nature because occasionally they are all on lock-down when the avalanche risk is high. Everyone has to stay inside and the usual camaraderie steps up a notch.

The Powderhounds have stayed at two of the Alta lodges and thoroughly enjoyed both. The Alta Peruvian Lodge is the pick if you want very social and rustic accommodations, or the Snowpine Lodge for delightful upscale rustic and boutique accommodations with great service. The Snowpine is the closest lodge to the beginners area and kids centre.

	Alta Peruvian Lodge (3 Star)	$$$
	This Alta lodging has great food, a hopping bar, a heated outdoor pool, ski rentals & once you stay here, you’ll be hooked for life. The Peruvian is definitely an experience, not just a place to lay your head.

	Alta Rustler Lodge (4 Star)	$$$
	Ski-in/out providing modest to elegant accommodations, fine dining and pampering spa services. Features include full-service ski shop, restaurant & bar, heated pool, steam room, games room, free wifi & free parking.

	Snowpine Lodge (4 Star)	$$$
	Ski-in/out with elegant private rooms & budget dorm room options. Features include hot tub, spa & massage services, free wifi & parking. Packages include breakfast and a gourmet 4 course dinner each day.

	Alta Lodge	$$$
	Ski-in/out lodge-style accommodations with private bathrooms. Amenities include a communal sauna, hot tubs, communal lounge, restaurant, a cozy bar & ski storage. Equipment rentals & lift passes also available on-site....

Alta Condo Lodging Towards the Snowbird end of the Alta village are various condominiums ranging from studios up to three-bedroom complexes. Most of them don’t have ski-in ski-out access to Alta, but some have SISO to Snowbird Ski Resort. 

Snowbird Accommodations Considering the ease of access between Alta and Snowbird, the other option is stay in one of the Snowbird hotels, although this is generally a more expensive option and doesn’t offer quite the same ambience and sociability as Alta lodging.

Off-Mountain Accommodations

Another alternative is to stay at the bottom of Big Cottonwood Canyon. Cottonwood Heights and Midvale are located between the two Cottonwood Canyons where some great value hotels can be found. There are dining options in these suburbs, so you can choose to dine locally or go downtown.

Cottonwood Heights is 15 miles from downtown SLC and only 14 miles (25 minute drive) from the Alta ski area. The following properties are located in Cottonwood Heights.

Just one word of warning; if you choose to stay in SLC you take the small risk of road closures up to Alta Ski Resort due to avalanche danger. The roads to other ski resorts in Park City (and possibly Big Cottonwood Canyon) are not likely to be closed, so you can make the most of a powder day at another resort.
