Zürs

Zürs am Arlberg Zürs ski resort Austria is a small and intimate village high a mountain pass in the Arlberg region. Like the neighbouring town of Lech, it offers an exclusive Austrian ski holiday experience and caters to the well heeled market.

The lifts of the Zurs ski resort originate right in the centre of the village, so the access to the Zurs skiing is incredibly convenient.  Zurs is now lift linked to neighbouring Stuben, St Christoph and St Anton via Trittkopfbahn gondola allowing access to the entire Ski Arlberg interconnected ski area.

Where is Zürs, Austria? Zürs (Zuers or Zurs!) is located in the Arlberg region of Vorarlberg state in western Austria, 15km northwest of St Anton and 5km from Lech.

Common gateway airports are Zurich (200km away), Innsbruck (120km away), Munich and Friedrichshafen.

Zurs Skiing and Snowboarding Terrain The Zurs ski resort is interlinked via lift pass, piste and a high quality lift system with the entire Ski Arlberg ski region. Ski Arlberg includes Lech, Warth Schroeken, Zug, Stuben, St Christoph and St Anton. Ski Arlberg gives access to an eye watering 87 lifts, 305km of piste and some of the world's best off piste.

The Zurs ski resort caters very well to beginners and intermediates, with the offerings for beginners generally better than the terrain at Lech ski resort. The endless intermediate terrain allows for long ski journeys like the White Ring. Over a distance of 22km and 5,500m vertical, the White Ring links the ski areas of Zurs, Zug, Oberlech, Lech, Stubenbach before returning to Zurs. The White Ring lets skiers and snowboarders truly experience the Arlberg at its finest.

Advanced skiers and snowboarders can ride the endless off-piste, and with fewer crowds than at nearby St Anton, Powderhounds have half a chance to score some fresh lines.

The Zurs ski resort also provides some great off-piste routes off the back for experts that like couloirs and gnarly lines. A guide can be hired from one of the ski schools.

Zurs Snow and WeatherZurs is located in one of the most consistent snowfall areas in Europe, let alone Austria. Warth Schroecken to the north east has a claimed annual snowfall average of 11m, St Anton to south east has 7m and Damuls to the northwest has 10m. You do the maths! The base altitude at Zurs is the highest (1716m) in the Ski Arlberg region so has better snow quality for longer.

Zurs Accommodation The village of Zurs Austria is small and there are only about 20 Zurs hotels, all within a few minutes walk to the ski lift. The Zurs hotels vary from 3 to 5 star, with the most luxurious being Thurnhers Alpenhof, Sporthotel Lorünser and the Zürserhof hotels.

Zurs Restaurants, Nightlife and Facilities Zurs provide a range of facilities and services which include babysitting, a Zurs ski hire shop, and the Zurs Ski School which has a great reputation.

There are about 20 Zurs restaurants, many of which are within the Zurs hotels. Quality is of the essence, and some of the restaurants have earned international acclaim. The Zurserhof Hotel Restaurant and the quaint Chesa restaurant are highlights.

The nightlife in Zurs certainly doesn’t rival the St Anton nightlife, but the après and nightlife is still reasonably vibrant. There are at least seven Zurs bars that range from quiet cocktails bars to more happening pubs for Austrian beer drinking. The Bergwerk bar seems to be the place for après. Having a drink outside is great if you have a Glühwein or four to keep you warm. Into the evening the Zurserl Pleasure Lounge is the place to be seen and for a dance.

More Reasons for a Zurs am Arlberg Ski Holiday Zurs caters to a more discerning crowd than the general holiday makers at St Anton. If you don’t need the crazy extreme terrain of St Anton or the family friendliness of Lech, head to Zurs Austria for a deluxe ski holiday experience.

Austria heli skiing is not commonly offered, but keen powderhounds can head out heli skiing in Zurs with the ski school. Heli skiing is the ultimate ski experience!
