Overview

Chamonix is THE destination for those passionate about off-piste skiing and mountaineering. On the streets of this famous high mountain town you will hear many languages spoken. The summit of Mont Blanc, which dominates the sky above Chamonix from its 4810 metres of snow, ice and rocks, gives the town its unique atmosphere.

Squeezed between the ranges of Mont Blanc and Aiguille Rouge, the Chamonix valley has an immense ski area divided into 5 parts: Les Grands Montets, Brévent/Flégère, Domain de Balme, Les Houches and Aiguille du Midi/Vallée Blanche.

One day and one night in Courmayeur, Italy will introduce you to the “Himalayan” side of Mont Blanc and you will traverse its sumptuous glaciers before arriving, by ski, in Chamonix.

This safari will be a treat for your eyes and a workout for your legs…

Hotel & Refuge

AIGUILLE DU MIDI HOTEL
Making the most of the tranquil Bossons village, the hotel is linked to the centre of Chamonix 3km away by a local bus, running every half hour. For over 100 years the hotel has retained its mountain spirit, warm welcome, good taste and gourmet values.

The evening meal is a real gastronomic pleasure, and the hotel boasts a sauna and Jacuzzi to relax in after a full day skiing.

RIFUGIO TORINO
The refuge Torino is situated near the top of the new Skyway Monte Bianco panoramic gondola below Punta Helbronner. Th location is high above Courmayeur in the Aosta Valley on the massif of Mont Blanc at 3 375 meters in height.

The refuge Torino can welcome up to 160 people, distributed in rooms of 4, 6, 8, 10, 14 and 16.  Toilets and bathrooms are shared. Due to frequent water shortage (ironic!), showers cannot be assured and fluching of toilets should be in moderation.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Arrival at the Aiguille du Midi Hotel.
Rendezvous at 6.30 pm to meet your guide, check everyone’s equipment and hand out safety material. Evening meal and night at the hotel.

DAY 2: La Balme/Le Tour.

You will head to Le Tour, a small ski area 15km from Chamonix. It offers ideal off piste trails to find your ski-legs.

DAY 3: Brévent/Flégère. Direction Brévent, just below Chamonix.

You will ski facing both the sun and Mont Blanc, a breath-taking panorama! Skiing towards La Flégère will give us the opportunity to ski many different types of snow and slopes, when there is enough snow, it is possible to ski right down into the centre of Chamonix.

DAY 4: Les Grands Montets.
A superb ski day at the foot of Mont Blanc, thanks to the Grands Montets lift system, the most renowned off-piste ski area in the valley. At the top of the cable car, the snow stays perfect, sheltered under the north face of the La Verte peak. Glaciers run right down to the valley floor, the trails in this ski area are some of the most beautiful that exist in skiing.

Lots of freshies to be had

 Skyway Monte Bianco - amazing

Ski the famous Valle Blanche

DAY 5: Courmayeur-Torino Refuge.
Off piste day in Italy, on the other side of the Mont Blanc Tunnel. Here you will need to call Mont Blanc the Italian Monte Bianco. Via the stunning Skyway Monte Bianco cable car, you will ski the Toule glacier, 3462 metres at its highest point, a descent of 1000 metres before rejoining our refuge for the night.

DAY 6: Punta Helbronner - Vierge Noire Glacier - Chamonix.
After a copious Italian breakfast, you will head for the cable car. The modern panoramic cable car offers spectacular views as it takes us up to the Torino refuge. From the summit, a short ski tour with skins up the Vierge glacier allows you access to the long descent towards Chamonix eventually arriving at the Montenvers train.

DAY 7: Aiguille du Midi - Vallée Blanche.
One cannot come to Chamonix without skiing the famous Vallée Blanche: 24 km of glacier with majestic views. Here, you remain at the heart of the largest glacial ski area in the French Alps, on top of the Aiguille du Midi at 3842 metres, descending 2800 metres to Chamonix…

DAY 8: Breakfast, the safari ends.

NOTE: This itinerary is a guide. The tour is dictated by the weather each day and your guide will fit around where the best conditions are. That’s the beauty of a guided tour!

QUALITY
The places of accommodation have been chosen both for their strategic location and for the charm of their mountain atmosphere, however luxury can not be promised. The organisers reserve the right to alter the programme at any time, in the aim of improving quality or making the best of prevailing conditions. Each guide has an average of 6/7 skiers per group, however on the spot it may be necessary to shift skiers in order to make the groups more homogeneous, consequently changing the size of each group.

INSURANCE MOUNTAIN RESCUE INSURANCE is mandatory. Check your coverage for accidents, repatriation and luggage. Mastercard covers rescue off piste, when accompanied by a professional. We may help participants living in the European Union to find such an insurance

CANCELLATION INSURANCE is optional, and may be contracted only privately. Visa Premier and Gold MasterCard provided by the French banks afford cancellation insurance for tours paid by credit card. Check with your own bank.

RESPONSIBILITY
In booking with “Safari 9V”, each participant declares him/herself fully aware of the inherent risks in the practice of all mountaineering activities. A guide should not be considered as a comprehensive insurance policy. We are dealing with something more than just sports, as we are confronted with a natural environment, which we may know profoundly, but can never control. The role of a guide or instructor is to reduce risks to a minimum. Therefore, any participant who does not respect the guide’s instructions, becomes entirely responsible for any accident he may subsequently cause or be involved in and will not be able to claim against the Safari 9V guides or organisers. Generally, “Safari 9V” cannot be held responsible for accidents which may occur during the trip, such as personal injury, loss of belongings, etc... unless professional failing can be proved. For all legal action, whatever the nationality of the participant or the place concerned, only French courts can deal with legal cases.

RESPONSABILITY AND LIABILITY In booking with Safari 9V, each participant is fully aware that there are inherent risks in the practice of all mountaineering activities. A guide should not be considered as a comprehensive insurance policy. We are dealing with something more than just sports, because man is confronted with a natural environment, which he may know profoundly, but can never control. The role of a guide or of an instructor is to reduce risks to a minimum. Heli-skiing involves an additional risk, which is that of the helicopter itself and the landing points which are sometimes quite narrow. Each participant is responsible for his own behaviour during pick-ups, flights and landings and is expected to respect precisely all specific instruction given prior to the flights, as well as every guide’s instruction during the helicopter manoeuvres and the skiing. The guide will instruct, warn and give orders, but can not physically control the behaviour of the people he is guiding, therefore, any participant who does not respect his instructions, becomes entirely responsible for any accident he may subsequently cause or be involved in and will not be able to claim against the 9V guides, the organisers or the pilot.
