Private Ski Area

18/04/2024
We turned up mid morning on a Wednesday and the place was practically deserted. There were perhaps 7 people skiing there and there were more staff than guests. Needless to say, each time we came to a lift, we just skied straight on.

It probably hadn’t snowed for 2 to 3 days. There were already several tracks in the off-piste zones but there were plenty of fresh lines left, and the snow was nice and creamy. Some small areas were a little too shrubby for easy turns. The base was sitting at 140cm, which was about average for that time of year, so it probably wouldn’t be too often that all the undergrowth would be covered. In other treed areas there was zero impedance and we had plenty of fun at our own private ski area.

We visited Jeunesse just for a day trip enroute between Tazawako and Onikoube, so we didn’t stay locally but rather stayed in Naruko Onsen. We were glad that we’d included Jeunesse on our road trip in Tohoku. These little gems are so rare these days, and we hope that despite the lack of visitation that it can hang on and remain open in coming years.
