Furano Backcountry Tour - New for 2025

The Furano Backcountry Tour features 6 guided days of adventure skiing and splitboarding around the Daisetsuzan National Park and other off-the-radar backcountry touring zones where few have ventured.

Rather than heading into the "sidecountry" at the ski resorts which are becoming increasingly busy, your guide will take you into the backcountry where fresh lines abound. Each day your expert guides will review the weather and snow conditions and choose the best backcountry destination accordingly.

Top it all off with exposure to the local culture, après ski soaking in hot springs, dining on traditional cuisine, and sampling local sake and refreshing beer.

Highlights

  • 6 guests, 2 certified ski guides
  • Based in Furano, no changing of hotels mid-tour
  • Fully flexible daily schedule chasing backcountry powder
  • Renowned Central Hokkaido powder
  • Avoid the increasingly busy local ski resorts
  • Fascinating Japanese culture, food and muscle relaxing onsen spas

Who is the Tour Suited To?

Experienced backcountry skiers and snowboarders looking to get deep into legendary Hokkaido backcountry powder via remote backcountry touring will love this tour. This advanced level backcountry tour is geared toward skiers and snowboarders who are willing and able to earn their turns. You need to be in good physical shape and keen on skiing deep powder and remote adventures. Expect deep powder, tight but fun trees and uphill skinning to access the goods.

Equipment Required

As this is a backcountry tour, skiers & snowboarders will require touring gear. For skiers your skis should be around 110 - 120 mm in the waist and you will require touring binding and skins. For snowboarders you will require a split board with skins and collapsible poles.

In addition, it is mandatory that all guests carry a backpack with an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe.

Staff can assist with more information about this and other recommended gear at the time of booking, and they can also assist with rental of some equipment, although this can be challenging.
