Mammoth Mountain Inn

Mammoth Mountain Inn

The Mammoth Mountain Inn is located ski-in ski-out at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort. The Mammoth Mountain Inn was established in 1959, and whilst the rooms have been renovated and modernised, there are some lovely olde world touches of grandeur that remain, particularly in the lobby and dining area.

This is a moderate budget hotel. Accommodations include simple and affordable hotel rooms, deluxe hotel rooms, and self-contained condos for groups and families.

Where is the Mammoth Mountain Inn?

The Mammoth Mountain Inn is located slopeside across the road from Main Lodge, which as the name suggests is the main day base area of the Mammoth Ski Resort. Main Lodge contains ski school, equipment rentals, a ski and snowboard shop and a cafeteria. There are a few lifts that leave from this base area including a beginners’ lift and the Panorama Gondola that heads to the top of the ski resort.

To access additional restaurants, bars and shops, the Mammoth Village is 4 miles down the road from the Mammoth Mountain Inn, and then it’s a further 1 mile into Main Street of the town of Mammoth Lakes.

During the day there’s a free bus service between Main Lodge and the Mammoth Village area (or you can ski to Canyons Lodge and catch the gondola down), and after 3pm the hotel runs an on-demand shuttle bus service to the village or into the town of Mammoth Lakes.

Slopeside Convenience

09/04/2015
Staying at the Mammoth Mountain Inn was just all too convenient. I whizzed down the slopes, walked about 20 metres to the front door of the hotel, and the ski valet took my skis, and put my boots on the drier (but strangely wouldn’t store my ski poles). In the mornings, wandering out the front door to click in was just as easy!

Staying here would be particularly convenient for families with small children considering the immediate access to child care amenities, equipment rentals and ski school, and of course the convenient access to the slopes. It would also be ideal for those who don’t want to go outside the hotel for dinner every night. It was easy enough to get the shuttle down to the village, but if you wanted to eat out every night you’d probably be better off staying down in the village.

The Mammoth Mountain Inn is old but it’s been renovated somewhat, so it doesn’t feel tired and has plenty of charm, particularly the main building. The Dry Creek bar is upscale rustic, and it offers the most amazing alpenglow views up the mountain that are perfectly framed in the windows.

We stayed in a superior room that had a big king bed that was very comfortable. The hotel was very quiet, unlike with some of the village accommodations where there is the potential for evening noise from restaurants and bars.

It’s very easy for us to recommend a stay at the Mammoth Mountain Inn. It provides very good value for money, and you can choose a room suitable to your budget.
