Les Gets Ski Resort France
Les Gets (pronounced something like Le Gee) combines with Morzine to be a major snow holiday location in the gargantuan French-Swiss Portes du Soleil (PduS) ski resort south of Geneva. It’s mainly gentle terrain & convivial village are the perfect antidote for anyone seeking a simple skiing escape without the intimidation of steep terrain, but still with fun après plus lots of bars & restaurants. Its lift pass price is one of the best in France, particularly on a Saturday!

Lift Passes & Portes du Soleil
Les Gets shares a superb local lift pass with neighbouring Morzine. Already great value covering the combined 120km of pistes, there are special rates to ski on Saturdays. The exceptional cheap rates are even better if pre-purchased online, and cheaper again (-15%) if skiing later in the season from April 1st. Anyone wanting to explore more broadly can buy a PduS pass, with is valid in Les Gets, Morzine and 10 other interlinked ski areas all the way across in Switzerland.
Les Gets is lift connected into the rest of the Portes du Soleil via Morzine & the Super Morzine gondola which heads toward Avoriaz, or via free ski buses toward Avoriaz & Châtel. Depending on who you believe, the PduS has more or less than 600km of ski trails & over 200 ski lifts. Whichever way one looks at it, any resort within the broader ski region is worth visiting, particularly after cold storms from the north & west. In warmer winters, Les Gets can suffer somewhat due its relatively low altitude. Thankfully nearby Avoriaz makes up for it.

Where is Les Gets France?
Les Gets is in the Haute Savoie of the French Alps, just south of the Swiss border & Lake Geneva (Lac Leman). By road, Les Gets village is only 80km (1¼hr) east of Geneva & only 8km from the major ski town (& interconnected ski resort) of Morzine. The closest major town & train station is at Cluses, 22km (30min) to the south.
The most convenient airport is Geneva (GVA), but given the nearby TGV train line, airports that are far away Paris (CDG) can be utilised to get to the area.
The railway station at Cluses is on the TGV line from Paris. It is 1⅓hr by regional train from Geneva (leave every 2hr through the day). Buses on the route 91 travel from Cluses to Les Gets (direction Morzine) on an extremely limited timetable of between 2 & 6 times a day, with the most services on a Saturday.

Unless one has a rental car, given the poor bus timetabling, if getting a train to Cluses, we recommend organising a private transfer to Les Gets. Alternatively, if the financials stack up, simply get a transfer direct from Geneva airport. A private transfer can be quite time & cost effective, particularly if in a group of 3 or more people.

Les Gets Accommodation
Les Gets has a pleasant village of the same name, nestled comfortably in a broad, shallow valley at 1,170m altitude that receives a nice dose of winter sun through the day. The village is low-rise (3-4 storey maximum) & structured along traditional lines with timber clad buildings in the local style lining the lively main street. With ski lifts emanating directly from much of the accommodation, Les Gets is wonderful for families heading out on their first French Alps ski adventure. Try the superb & highly rated Hotel Alpina.

Away from the centre the centre of the village, the many chalets dotted across the valley are interconnected to the ski lifts by 5 free ski-bus lines that run throughout the day.
The simple alternative is the nearby town of Morzine. It is the area’s largest, & some say, prettiest place to stay. Morzine has the full range of services & lodging options expected of a quality ski resort. Its relatively low altitude of less than 1,000m may mean it lacks the luscious mantle of snow in the village that we so love on our ski holiday jaunts. Modern gondola lifts depart from the centre of town heading up to the Morzine - Les Gets ski slopes on one side, and the Avoriaz slopes on the other. Ski trails from the Morzine side end on the fringe of town. A download or ski bus ride is required to return from Avoriaz.
