Skiing in Idaho
Most people think of Idaho skiing being synonymous with Sun Valley. This mega Idaho ski resort is a major destination resort that draws visitors from all over the US including lots of celebrities. Sun Valley Idaho is one of the original US ski resorts and it has a rich history and defined ski culture, but it’s definitely not stuck in the past. Sun Valley is a progressive ski resort with all the bells and whistles, lots of upscale lodging, and restaurants, bars and shops.
Sun Valley is probably the most well known Idaho ski resort, and it has the advantage of being able to add a day or two of heli skiing with Sun Valley Heli Ski. Despite Sun Valley Ski Resort stealing most of the glory when it comes to skiing in Idaho, there are other excellent Idaho ski resorts.
Some of the Idaho ski areas are Mom and Pop style, with a small ski vertical and limited facilities, but there are also a few substantial Idaho ski areas resorts as Bogus Basin, Brundage Mountain, Silver Mountain and Schweitzer Mountain.
Schweitzer Mountain is an unpretentious ski resort with a large ski area of 2,900 acres (1,174 hectares). Whilst it is classified as a destination resort, the village is rather small and the skiers and snowboarders are predominantly locals. The Schweitzer Ski Resort is a great choice for families or others looking for a ski resort that’s reasonably quiet, relatively inexpensive, and has got terrain for everyone. See our Schweitzer ski resort review for more information.
One of the major pros of Schweitzer Mountain is that there is a snowcat skiing operation over the back of the resort with the Selkirk Powder Company. This fantastic cat skiing provides the perfect opportunity to ride lots of fresh powder.
