Greenland Skiing & Snowboarding

Skiing in Greenland is amongst the world's last great ski adventures. Raw & wild, Greenland has Arctic ski experiences including land or boat-based ski touring & heli-skiing.

Greenland’s extreme northerly location make it a perfect spring skiing destination. High mountains & glaciers close to the coast provide a multitude of backcountry ski & snowboard possibilities from late-March to June.

Due to the difficulties of logistics, the best way to ski Greenland is by joining a guided tour. See all Greenland Guided Ski Tours.

Ski Resorts

There are no ski resorts in Greenland. Skinning & helicopters are the only upward motion options (& maybe a snowmobile or two in some parts!)

Land & Boat-based Ski Touring

Ski touring takes place in several locations of Greenland. One of the best for land-based ski-touring is near the village of Kulusuk in the southeast of the country.

The fjords of Greenland's west coast provide spectacular boat based skiing up to the coastal peaks (up to 1,700m above sea level) and glaciers. Amazing boat based journeys start from the small town of Kangerlussuaq, situated 160km inland from the coast via a deep fjord. Despite it being a small town, Kangerlussuaq's location provides a stable climate for the country's most important international air transport hub.

Heliskiing

Heliskiing is possible in Greenland during the late Spring months. More info is coming soon.

Where is Greenland?

Greenland may be part of the Powderhounds Europe section (it is still an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark after all) but is situated closer to New York than Copenhagen! The vast glacier covered land mass is in the North Atlantic between Canada & Iceland. The capital, Nuuk, is on the southwest coast around 2,900km northeast of New York, 1,400km west of Reykjavik Iceland & 3,500km west of Copenhagen.

Travel to Greenland

Numerous small airports dot the coast of southern Greenland. The main airports with useful international connections include Kulusuk (KUS) & Kangerlussuaq (SFJ). International connections tend to be via flights from Iceland (Reykjavik or Keflavik) to Kulusuk on the east coast & Denmark (Copenhagen) to the largest airport at Kangerlussuaq on the west coast. Nuuk (GOH) & Maniitsoq (JSA) airports are important domestic airport providing access to heliskiing operations.

Search & book here for flights to Kulusuk, Kangerlussuaq or other Greenland airport.

Greenland Accommodation

Greenland has a limited range of hotels & guesthouses dotted throughout the southern quarter of the country, but most are in glorious coastal locations right on the sea with mountain & glacier views. Search & book here for Accommodation in Greenland.
