Monte Bondone Ski Resort Italy

Monte Bondone is family-friendly ski resort on the edge of the Dolomites located spectacularly above the city of Trento. If you are looking for a quick ski fix with a minimum of fuss & expense, Monte Bondone might be the perfect antidote.

Skiing & Snowboarding, Lift & Terrain

The Monte Bondone skiing & snowboarding terrain has over 900m of skiable vertical on a a smallish 22km of trials & routes that will provide a lovely dose of local Italian resort fun for most visitors to the region.

Mostly an intermediate mountain on the piste, the resort streams down north-aspect terrain predominantly above the villages & road that passes through the mountains. No advanced piste runs but a wide off-piste & 5 short designated Freeride routes. The longest run combination, Palon & Gran Pista, runs the full skiable vertical from the 2,090m summit down to the lowest part of the resort at Malga Mezavia (1,184m elevation), over a distance of 4km. The trail traverses the road via a ski bridge. The resort’s Rocce Rosse chairlift has one of the highest single vertical rises of any chairlift in Europe, over 800m vert.

Before we get there to sample it for ourselves, check out the ski trail map.

Where is Monte Bondone Italy?

The Monte Bondone ski resort is located in the north-east Italian region of Trentino at the southwestern edge of the Dolomites near the village of Vason.

Access is best via the airports at Innsbruck (INN), Venice (VCE) or at a stretch, Milan Malpensa (MXP) (for international travellers). Trento is the closest major city (22km/35 to 40min drive) & is well served by trains heading on the north-south Innsbruck to Verona line, plus has easy connections with Venice or Milan via the massive Porta Nuova station in Verona.

From the Trento train station, the route B202 bus takes around an hour to climb the tortuous route up to the village of Vason. Alternatively, a private transfer from the airport or Trento train station is a comfortable mode of travel. A rental car makes getting around the region easy & fun, but we recommend renting cars only from Austria for winter driving in this part of Italy.

For detailed information on the best ways to getting to the region, see our Travel to the Dolomites page.

Monte Bondone Accommodation

Monte Bondone ski resort has no single accommodation base, but rather a series of small hamlets along the road up the mountain. The three localities of Vaneze (1,300m elevation), Norge (1,425m) & Vason (1,654m) have the bulk of the lodgings, with Vaneze & Vason offering direct ski lift access to the slopes. Accommodations are in 3 & 4-star hotels & apartments in situations that are so close to ‘ski-in’, that we are calling them ski-in!

The obvious lodging alternative is in the charming city of Trento, set deep in the valley below the resort & surrounded by precipitous Dolomites peaks. With its high number of quality apartments, BnBs & hotels Trento provides a lively base from which to explore the region, however its incredibly low altitude will generally mean the city is snowless.

Ski Rentals

Ski rentals are available via our local partners in two of Monte Bondone’s mountain villages at Vaneze & Vason. Receive a discount when you search & book via our Monte Bondone Ski & Snowboard Rental page.

Review
