A powder weekend in Goderdzi

I've just returned from a beautiful weekend in Goderdzi and thought I'd share my experiences in this hidden gem of a resort.

I booked on the Tuesday and landed in Batumi on the Thursday as they were in the middle of a huge storm cycle. Batumi was ground to a halt for several days but luckily the airport re opened the day before I landed and the road to resort literally opened a few hours before I set off.

I stayed at the Ambassadori and I thought it was great. Maybe a European 4.5* but the rooms were great and the skiing services they offered were ultra convenient. The manager there, Irakli, was incredibly helpful in organising transfers, guides etc. The hotel also has 2 x Snow Cats of their own but you need to organise or join a group to make use of them it appears. Ski shop in the hotel was well stocked with touring and free ride skis there but best to reserve in advance.

I skiied with Vagabond Tours who organised an ad hoc Cat Ski weekend which was epic. The resort is astonishingly quiet. We were the only Cat operation in action for most of the day and we saw about 3 other people doing Touring. It meant for endless untouched powder fields after the storm. If you had 6 days uninterrupted Cat Skiing (unlikely due to storms), you may get a bit bored as I imagine you'll do some terrain two times as not sure how far they can go unless the group can ski tour. For piste skiiers there is literally 2 runs so anyone beyond complete beginner will get bored after 1 day. However it would be a great place to learn due to the quiet slopes.

Overall a beautiful, quiet resort with serious powder and a great adventure!
