Get lost in Alta Badia

22/10/2018
Skied Alta Badia three times in 2018 and each time in different weather from cold blue sky day to white out blizzard day. Each time I succeeded in getting a little bit lost in the maze of beginner and intermediate ski runs between Armentarola/San Cassiano and Corvara. It is easy to just get on the wrong chair or take the wrong run because are so many of them. Hot drinks and strudel in rifugios saved me.

This an awesome spot for any skier that loves heaps of wide groomed trails surrounded by beautiful Dolomites mountains and doing long tours like the Sella Ronda etc.

A lot to love about Alta Badia

Powderhounds Europe

Having skied Alta Badia in January 2017 during a poor snow season, we were able to contrast it to this trip during a busier period in Feb 2018. Aside from crowds on some of the popular lifts and trails, the main difference was the great snow conditions, highlighting that there is a lot to love about Alta Badia.

Chief among the loves are the piste trails and lifts for the vast bulk of the skiing public. Abundant beginner and intermediate terrain amongst classic Dolomites scenery and interspersed with authentic mountain huts and rifugios make Alta Badia a great family ski destination. The main villages of Corvara, San Cassiano and La Villa all easily feed into this terrain via the efficient lift system.

Alta Badia is lacking a little for advanced riders but a short journey to Arabba or exploring the off piste around the Vallon will keep one amused, as will the abundant and lively bars. Alta Badia is the best place to try a Calimero after all!

Eat, drink, be merry.....and ski!

23/01/2017
The 2016/17 season wasn't kind to the Dolomites. Massive storms seemed to dump snow everywhere in January except the the jagged limestone peaks of the Dolomites. Regardless, we still had an awesome time skiing Alta Badia from our Corvara base.

Between gawking at the views, drinking calimeros, bombardinos, spritzers & foam infused with basil gins, eating long lunches at excellent mountain restaurants on Col Alt or Piz Boe and then more drinks & superb complimentary food at the bar later, like us, you may even find time to do some fun skiing in Alta Badia.

A mind blowingly good snow making system, modern & efficient lift system, excellent lift and trail connections with other ski resorts, a few super fast and fun runs (think Vallon into Boe and the tear* inducing Gran Risa), plus plenty for families, beginners and intermediates make Alta Badia a great ski destination - natural snow or not! (*Note 'tear' is liquid falling from eyes, NOT oops, rip, ouch tear ligament like tear.......although take a spill on the Gran Risa and that might be the outcome!)

The best place to stay for a combination of sun, fun, lift access, hotels, bars , restaurants & shopping is Corvara. Toss a coin for the other locations like La Villa, San Cassiano & Colfosco - each has pros & cons. A quiet option is to stay in one of the many rifugios dotted around the resort.

Ski Alta Badia, but remember that it is just as much about the eating & drinking, as it is about the skiing.
