Splendid Isolation at Champorcher

POWDERHOUNDS EUROPE
09/04/2018
Champorcher delivered all we expected. A small ski resort with a sizeable vertical. Traditional villages, a smattering of accommodation plus simple bars and restaurants. And all at the end of a long windy road which starts near the Fortress of Bard in the Aosta Valley.

Lift ticket prices during the week are a steal and crowds are non existent. Savour the silence once off the lifts and enjoy fun intermediate piste trails, off piste alpine powder and technical tree skiing, plus backcountry access.

The learn to ski area at Laris is sheltered, yet high enough to get all the views and have great snow.

Valley trail to the bottom gets a bit scaley toward the end of the day as it follows a summer road for part of the way.

Lunch and drinks at the Bar at Laris were excellent. The ski route to isolated Rifugio Dodena from the top of the Cimetta Rossa quad chair is a fun distraction for some added peace & quiet.

Whilst the off piste was a tad crudy during our visit, Champorcher is a fun Aostan ski hill which makes a blissful change from the mega ski resorts of Europe.
