I went heli-skiing in Kamchatka for a week at the end of April 2019. It was one of the best experiences of my life. The landscapes are out of this world and the topography is world class. So much to ski, so much to explore and you are just alone.
In April there will be lots of different snow conditions depending on the altitude, exposition and wind conditions. The vertical is impressive, temperatures are low, days are long, snow is very stable. Lots of terrain available. Steep, steep stuff is not available, but you'll have everything else. Bowls, volcanos, extremely long runs, amazing landscapes.
The helicopter was a Sturdy Mi8 carrying 12 clients, 3 crew and 3 guides -a workhorse. All the guides have plenty of experience with the terrain. Always a Russian guide with the group to be able to interact with locals and any ad hoc issues.
Quite expensive but big vertical. We did 17h of helicopter for 49 runs and 42,000m vertical. Fun, fun, fun!!!
It was unbelievable.
