Program
Depending on what you have arranged, once landing at the airport in the small city of Tromsø in northern Norway, you will need to pick up your rental car; or a driver will be waiting to greet you, and then drive to the Apartments on the Lyngen peninsula. The drive includes a car-ferry ride across to Lyngen, just to get you in the right mood for this extraordinary region! A stop at a supermarket along the way is worthwhile to stock up on supplies for your stay in the apartment. The tour then spends six days ski-touring the mountains of the Lyngen peninsula with your own private guide. For an added tariff, you can include one day transported by fast boat to ski a nearby island such as Kågen. Depending on your group's ability & aspirations, each morning your guide will direct you to a new location and skiing will start directly from the car parking point.
For more detailed information, see the Itinerary tab.
Ground Transport
The standard 'Apartment' tour package is self-drive and does not include airport transfers or transport othe ski locations. If arriving by plane, it is recommended that you rent a car in Tromsø. This way you have the flexibility to go to the supermarket in Tromsø and also the little supermarket located 10min from the apartment for supplies. The vehicle needs to be large enough to include the guide and their equipment on the ski days. It is also possible to ask the tour operator to organise an airport transfer and transport around the Lyngen for an additional cost.
The Skiing
Lyngen Alps has something for everyone. Beautiful summits, open bowls, cruisy trees, steep couloirs, easy climbs or technical ascents. You name it, it is here. The mountains in the northern part of the Lyngen peninsula range from around 800m to just over 1,600m above sea level. In the higher elevations there are glaciers and peaks with perfect 360-degree views. In the lower 300m of altitude down to sea level, there is often birch and other small trees for fun, relatively sheltered tree skiing. In between there is everything else!
Total vertical ascent/descent on any given daily ski tour will depend on the group & local snow & weather conditions.
Lodging & Meals
The tour operator is partnered with Lyngen Experience to provide the best combination of skiing & accommodation. Lodging in this package is in deluxe, self-contained apartments in 1, 2 & 3-bedroom configuration, based at the Lyngen Experience Apartments. Situated on the seashore at the northern end of the Lyngen Peninsula, the apartments feature full kitchens, dining & living rooms with views across the fjord.
For more info about the Apartments & meals, see the Lodging tab.
Guides & Group Size
The tour operator is the biggest on Lyngen and they love taking people skiing in these mountains. All guides are fully certified and with great local knowledge and broader experience from frequently guiding in different parts of the world.
The maximum guest to guide ratio on a ski tour is 6 guests per guide. For any experienced groups chasing big faces, steep couloirs & tackling more challenging terrain, a group size of maximum four guests per guide is recommended.
Ski Ability, Fitness & Gear
As these are private tours, all ski & snowboard abilities can be catered for; however it is recommended all participants have some ski-touring experience AND be of a similar level of ability & experience.
Ski touring is an arduous activity. To get the best out of a visit to the Lyngen Alps, guests are encouraged to be as fit as possible before arriving. Having said that, each day's ski tour will cater to your group's fitness level.
Ski-touring & splitboarding gear (including avalanche safety equipment) are not included in the tour tariff. A small amount of technical equipment is available for rental but should not be relied upon. Inquire with the operator when booking.
