Freeride & Ski Touring Camp From Innsbruck
Powder lines around the city! Join in to see what is possible with free touring in North Tyrol!
Innsbruck is the freeride capital of the Alps and here the urban lifestyle and the great skiing experience are closer together than in almost any other city in the Alps. Between the steep flanks with deep powder snow of the Nordkette and the Stubai Glacier with its glacier tours in the south of the city, you can find all kinds of freeriding. Perfect for this freetouring Innsbruck camp.
You'll understand why this is the case over the few days on the tour. Staying in the old town of Innsbruck, you'll be taken by private shuttle every day to wherever the snow is best at the time. Although the travel times are short, the radius is large. If the snow comes from the northwest, there are often incredible conditions right next to the city on the Nordkette. If it comes from the south, the Stubai Glacier or Kühtai are options. You could also go to the Lizum to the Kalkkögel, to Seefeld or to the Glungezer. There is the right option for all conditions.
Innsbruck is a fantastic city full of interest & surrounded by an amazing array of ski resorts & alpine terrain within a short drive of the city centre. The Creme de la Creme tour will allow you to experience the very best freeriding or on-piste skiing in the central Tyrol, without traveling any more than 45 minutes from your Innsbruck hotel. Not bound to one specific resort, the tour can explore different ski areas in the region, going where the conditions are best and depending on the group's wants & needs!
The goal of the tour is clear: find the best snow conditions (powder if possible) and do as many runs as the group can muster. All under the supervision and direction of your guides which hold the highest possible Austrian guiding and safety qualifications.
If you are more interested in a private few days of touring & freeriding, perhaps inquire about guided powder skiing. Click to view single/multi-day ski guiding near Innsbruck ->

Itinerary
During the Freeride & Ski Touring Camp the focus is on two main areas: we want to go on great ski tours and, if the powder allows, we also want to freeride in the ski area with short ascents. The guide & group will decide spontaneously every day whether to want to go on a ski tour or whether we would rather go freeriding at a ski resort in the area.
Each day starts with a pickup from the Hotel Grauer Bär in Innsbruck at 8:00 a.m. and then head for the best valley for the prevailing conditions. This can vary widely and includes the valleys in all directions around Innsbruck, which often offer great, solitary touring opportunities. Arrival back at the Grauer Bär in Innsbruck at around 4:30 p.m.
Guides
Your guide on the tour is a full time professional with the highest Austrian qualifications as a ski instructor & mountain guide. All are multilingual in English, German & Italian.
Ski Ability & Fitness
Ability
Your pulse should not increase when skiing on black slopes; i.e. short turns on such slopes are standard and you can easily master them. You must have experience of skiing in different snow conditions before the tour. You must be sure that you can get back down safely on off-piste descents with moderate steepness and variable snow conditions!
Fitness
For this tour you need a solid minimum level of fitness. The climbs are around 700m high every day and you should know what that means and that it is doable for you. Experience in mountaineering with climbs of around 1000m high is an alternative that suggests sufficient fitness. Daily climbs take around three hours.
Transport & Group Size
Transport during the tour is by a minibus with 8 passenger seats. Maximum group size is therefore 8 guests. The minimum for the tour to run is 4 guests.
Getting to Innsbruck
There are several options to get to Innsbruck. If coming from the UK or Europe, one can easily travel by train or fly into Innsbruck. From there it is easy to hope the bus into the city for your hotel. Skiers & Snowboarders from other continents will probably need to use Munich (MUC) or even Zurich (ZRH) airport . Both are easily linked to Innsbruck by train. Alternatively, particularly if in a larger group, a private transfer may be a cost effective and efficient way for a return transfer between Munich airport <--> your Innsbruck hotel. For more detailed information on how to get there, see our Travel to Innsbruck page.
Accommodation & Meals
Accommodation & meals are not included in the tour price. Hotel Grauer Bär, in the heart of the old town of Innsbruck, is the pick-up & drop off for each day of the tour and makes an excellent base to stay at Innsbruck. The hotel has wonderful breakfasts included and is close to all the cities best sights, restaurant, & bars. If it is booked out, see other options via our Where to Stay in Innsbruck page.
