Snow
When it comes to snow conditions, Goderdzi doesn’t disappoint. With an annual snowfall of approximately 10 metres, Goderdzi ensures a deep and lasting winter playground. This consistent snowfall guarantees fresh powder throughout the season. Situated in Adjara, where the first waves of eastward-moving weather systems carry moisture from the Black Sea, Goderdzi receives some of the highest amounts of snowfall in all of Georgia. This abundant snowfall not only contributes to its well-deserved reputation for exceptional snow quality but also ensures consistent coverage throughout the season.
The snow quality in Goderdzi is renowned for its dryness, making it a dream for those seeking fluffy, light powder turns. While snow depth varies throughout the season, mid-winter depths typically range from 5-8 meters, creating a deep and stable base for your backcountry adventures.
Terrain & Vertical
Goderdzi, Georgia, offers an exceptional backcountry terrain for the adventure seekers. Nestled amidst the breathtaking mountains of the Lesser Caucasus, this region is a haven for intermediate to advanced riders looking to explore untracked powder. As with any cat ski operation in the world, the skiable vertical on any day will be up to the fitness of the group, but in the realms of 3,000 to 5,000m.
Goderdzi's ski terrain is at altitudes ranging from 2,000 to 2,500 metres, providing extensive backcountry options. The terrain comprises pristine bowls, challenging chutes, and tree-lined glades, ensuring an exciting variety for everyone.
With a diverse range of backcountry opportunities, you can explore everything from steep descents to open bowls and glades. Each experience offers unique challenges, making Goderdzi an ideal playground for experienced skiers and snowboarders, with lots of playful pillows and jumps, and the unique experience of skiing between snowed-in wooden houses in abandoned mountainside villages.
If you’re a fan of tree skiing, Goderdzi’s forests are blanketed in deep powder during the season, offering thrilling tree runs with the perfect blend of speed and control.
Accommodation & Meals
Six nights of comfortable accommodation in double/twin rooms including breakfast every day, at the luxurious Ambassadori Hotel & Spa awaits you in Goderdzi. Upgrading to single rooms is possible for an additional fee.
For more detailed information on food & accommodation, see the Lodging tab.
Guides
Georgia’s mountains are wild and there is no avalanche control in backcountry ski zones, so we only work with the best guides who have the highest safety standards. All trips are led by a GMGA-certified backcountry ski guide who speaks fluent English and not only keeps you safe on the mountain, but also provides an exceptionally fun and exciting travel experience. There are also German and Czech-speaking guides available. The maximum guide-to-guest ratio during the tour will be 1:4.
Ski Ability & Customising Your Tour
This cat skiing tour requires previous experience skiing or snowboarding off-piste, be comfortable on ‘red’ (intermediate) runs, and a fitness level suitable for riding deep snow. The destination includes a range of descent options from intermediate powder runs to very steep experts-only chutes and everything in between. It is important that everyone in the group is at a similar level in order to ride together comfortably.
For those who wish to explore Georgia’s backcountry on a ski safari but do not have experience riding powder, off-piste ski courses are also offered to brush up on your technique before setting out into the wild. All of the guides are also qualified ski and snowboard instructors who are happy to help you improve your technique.
Getting to Georgia & Goderdzi
The tour can start at either Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi. All ground transport is included in the tour price. You will be picked up from the airport or local accommodation then driven to the hotel in Goderdzi.
Travel to Georgia is simplest via Tbilisi (TBS) with flights from most major cities in Europe and the Middle East. Many guests from all over the world fly via Dubai, London, Munich, Paris, or Istanbul. From Tbilisi a scenic 260km journey to Goderdzi through central Georgia takes approximately 6 hours. A brief off-road segment is followed by an oversnow transfer is a snowcat across a mountain pass to reach Goderdzi.
Direct flights to Kutaisi (KUT) arrive from many European cities on Wizz Air & some other minor airlines. For Batumi (BUS), flights generally arrive via Istanbul. Note that flight interruptions often occur at Batumi in poor weather, which is very common in southwest Georgia in winter! From Kutaisi, a picturesque 260km adventure, taking approximately 6 hours, passes through Batumi and ventures deeper into the mountains of Adjara. A lengthy off-road section starts shortly after the seaside which is only accessible by 4x4s. Enjoy the ride!
