Tomamu Cat Skiing
Tomamu Cat Skiing offers snowcat accessed fresh Central Hokkaido powder. It usually only operates on weekends in the height of the season. The upside of limited days is that the terrain has plenty of opportunity for a powder reset, but the downside is that it doesn’t take much for the spots to get booked up by some mad keen locals who are hungry for the untracked powder.
Thankfully Whiteroom Guides have been provided exclusive access to a very limited number of days, and the Tomamu Cat Skiing will be guided by the Whiteroom Team so the experience won’t be for intermediates and you won’t get stuck just riding the easy slopes. You'll also have an English speaking guide.
If you’re staying in Furano, the day package includes transport between your accommodation and the snowcat staging area. The day also includes a nice lunch served in the comfort of a yurt.

Snowcat
The snowcat has a heated cabin on the back, so it’s a very comfortable method of uphill transport in between descents.
Terrain
The snowcat skiing tenure is situated on the flanks of Mt Karifuri, about 20 minutes drive from the Tomamu Ski Resort.
The day of cat skiing includes 5 runs accessed via snow, of up to 500 metres of vertical drop between the elevations of 600 and 1,300 metres.
The terrain includes some sub-alpine slopes that are wide open or sparsely vegetated as well as some trees that are mostly naturally gladed. Whilst the terrain doesn’t have any super steeps, much of it is at a nice pitch that’s well suited to advanced riders.
Ability Level
The minimum ability level for the cat skiing with Whiteroom is advanced in powder. In other words you need to be able to ski or ride with confidence through trees and variable off-piste conditions, and also do this at a decent speed so as to not hold up others in the group. You also need to have a good level of fitness.
Group
Solos, duos or small groups can join this mixed group cat skiing day (pending availability).
