Pension Lilla Huset

Pension Lilla Huset

Pension Lilla Huset (Rusutsu Lodges) at Rusutsu is a basic pension with a very traditional feel, located directly across the road from the Rusutsu Resort Hotel.

There are a few varieties of rooms, western or Japanese and some have private ensuites but most use shared bathroom facilities.

The hosts speak very little English however they are lovely and go way beyond the call of duty to make your stay comfortable (Australians don't forget to take a jar of Vegemite because they love it!)

Where is Pension Lilla Huset Rusutsu?

It is literally a 3 minute walk to the Rusutsu Resort Hotel, about 4 minutes walk to some great izakaya restaurants and about 5 minutes walk to the slopes. If you take a bus to Rusutsu, you get dropped off at the front of the resort hotel and the hosts will come across and pick up you and your luggage.

Rooms

There are 4 types of rooms as follows:

Japanese-style room with shared bathroom facilities (up to 4 guests on futons on tatami floor)

Western-style room with shared bathroom facilities (up to 4 guests in 3 single beds & 1 sofa)

Japanese-style room with private bathroom & toilet (up to 3 guests on futons on tatami floor)

Japanese/western combo room with private bathroom & toilet (Up to 5 guests in 2 rooms - 2 x futons, 2 x western single beds and a sofa for the 5th guest) plus a small living room with a small table & seating area.

Each room has a tatami-mat (woven straw) area, flat-screen TV, refrigerator and tea/coffee maker and toiletries are provided.

Facilities

There is free wifi throughout the property and free on-site parking. The property also has a small his and hers Japanese bath house (onsen) and a ski storage area.

There are free laundry facilities, a guest computer in the lobby, and guests can use the communal kitchen to prepare meals.

Restaurant & Bar

There is no restaurant as such however a common eating area where a set breakfast is served to guests in the mornings, and dinner can be arranged with pre-reservation.

Diagonally across the road there are some terrific traditional Japanese restaurants & bars (but be sure to book as they can get busy).

Basic But Adequate

We stayed at the Lilla Huset a couple of years ago and if you are on a budget (as we were), this is a great option.

The rooms are very basic and really just a place to rest your head at night.

Breakfast was quite good with western food and tea and coffee. They do offer a dinner package as an option however there are some great izakaya restaurants just across the road that are very inexpensive so we would recommend going out at night.

The highlight of the Pension Huset is the lovely couple who run the place. They barely speak a work of English however with a bit of sign language and pointing you will get by and have a great time.

As long as you don't have super high expectations about the quality of the rooms, and you are more about the skiing and a authentic Japanese experience, this is a great alternative to the big crazy resort hotels!
