Berjaya Hakkouda

Berjaya Hakkoda Hotel

Hakkoda is a fantastic destination for a powder adventure and the best place to base yourself is at the Hakkoda Resort Hotel (now known as Berjaya Hakkouda Ski Resort). This delightful hotel has good quality accommodation, fantastic meals, and great service.

Where is the Berjaya Hakkouda Ski Resort?

The Hakkoda Resort Hotel is located right near the Hakkoda ski resort and ropeway station. The ropeway station is only a 2 minute walk away, and the hotel is sort of ski-in.

Hotel Rooms

The Berjaya Hotel has traditional Japanese rooms as well as western rooms.

The Japanese tatami rooms have three futon beds, a toilet and basin, a television and telephone. The on-site onsen can be used for bathing.

The very comfortable western rooms have two single beds, a bathroom (including shower), television and telephone.

Facilities

The hotel has great facilities in case you're in need of some R&R for your aching body. Firstly there's an indoor onsen for males and females. The hot springs are super hot, and to really shock your body there's also a cold plunge pool. Both onsens have a sauna and a divine massage chair, and the upstairs lounge has a foot massage machine.

Other hotel facilities:
  • Upstairs lounge area with a television so you can watch the sumo wrestling!
  • Small downstairs lounge area
  • Wireless internet in the communal areas
  • Small shop with souvenirs and a few snacks and beverages
  • Vending machines
  • Private bar upstairs although it's generally only open for special groups
  • Ski lockers and boot drying area
  • Laundry
  • Discounted rental equipment and lift passes are available

Hotel Dining

The meals will be a highlight of your stay. Dinner consists of a different Japanese set meal each night that has a large variety of small dishes. The yummy meals tend to have a strong emphasis on local seafood, and it's a great opportunity to sample an array of gourmet Japanese delights. A range of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages can be purchased over dinner.

The hot breakfasts have a largely western influence so you won't be stuck eating unusual and unidentifiable fishy things first thing in the morning!

There's no nightlife per se at the hotel. There might be some low key socialisation in the upstairs lounge with beverages from the vending machine, but that's about it. Most people will be in bed by 9pm, if not earlier. Most are happy to forego a party scene because they're at Hakkoda for the skiing and snowboarding.

Why Stay at the Berjaya Hakkoda Hotel?

The hotel is really conveniently located at Hakkoda. The quality of the accommodation is pretty good considering the rates. The hotel has a nice vibe, and it's a great place for relaxation after a hard day on the slopes. Best of all, the meals are sensational.

Amazing!

A group of three of us stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. We shared a traditional Japanese room, which was pretty small, but we had enough room to sleep, have a small table and chairs, unpack and hang our wet gear. We also had a sink and toilet in the bathroom. Downstairs was great to shower and soak in the warm onsen so we didn't miss having a shower in the room. The hotel also provided slippers and robes to use in the hotel, which everyone did! The facilities were pretty good. We enjoyed the beer, sake and drinks from the vending machines! My only main complaint was smoking in the hotel, but that's normal in Japan. The service and food was amazing! Breakfast was buffet and had a good western and Japanese variety. Dinner was superb!!! 9 course meal every night! Usually there was hot pot/soup, fresh fish, a western plate and dessert. We always looked forward to dinner every night. Thanks Hakkoda Resort and Spa! It was an excellent stay!

Rare find ... Great food ..traditional rooms..friendly Onsen...amazing surroundings and so so close to lifts; ski in and short walk out. If you had a good arm you could pitch a snow ball at the lift from the foyer.

Loved the place. Had a relaxing time and fantastic skiing.. Really what more could you ask for.

A Delightful Stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hakkoda Resort Hotel. Firstly the rooms were really comfortable and sizeable, and we enjoyed the convenience of being so close to the ski area.

The onsens were fantastic. The hot springs were a little on the hot side so we didn’t spend too much time having a soak, but the quality of the water was beautiful.

Meals in the dining room were very social and the majority of the food was to-die-for. Tasting lots of little treats and sipping on sake was a highlight of our stay.

The Hakkoda Resort Hotel is far from a budget accommodation option, but considering all things and the copious amounts of quality food, it’s really good value for money. Mr Goto, the boss man of the hotel, is a legend. He runs around the place in his big gumboots and has the place organised like clock work.
