Shakespeare Hotel

Shakespeare Hotel

The Shakespeare Hotel Hakuba enjoys a prime location in Echoland to access restaurants and bars, and the bus stop to the ski resorts. The hotel main building mimics Shakespeare’s birth house and part of the building resembles Shakespeare’s school, and whilst the rooms are western style, the hotel still retains plenty of Japanese characteristics.

Where is the Shakespeare Hotel?

The Shakespeare Hotel has a perfect Hakuba Echoland location, tucked in just behind the main street of Echoland where there are plenty of restaurants and bars.

It’s about 1.5km from the Happo One Ski Resort of Hakuba and the bus stop across the road takes you to Happo One and other Hakuba ski areas. This Hakuba Base Camp bus stop is also where the airport shuttle buses arrive and where day trip shuttles to other Nagano ski resorts (Nozawa Onsen, Madarao, Shiga Kogen, Myoko Kogen) depart from.

See the Hakuba travel page for information on the location of Hakuba and how to get there.

Loved the location. One step outside, and you get a great panorama view of the mountains. Can’t beat that. Lots of restaurants and bars to choose from on the street the hotel is located. Not to mention the Othello, a French restaurant inside the hotel property was amazing. To top it off, shuttle bus stop to the slopes is right in front.

Staff was very friendly and welcoming. I would love to come back and stay at the Shakespeare for my next trip to Hakuba.

Each room and their bar is based off Shakespeare. Not only is their theme solid the selection of drinks and food is mouthwatering. With a star or not their new restaurant must be delicious too. Looking forward to checking the place out again.

I stayed for 3 nights at the Shakespeare Hotel in January 2019, and skiied both Hakuba 47 and Happo while there. The Shapespeare had everything we needed. The rooms were nice and neat, the staff was very friendly, and you can’t beat the location. It’s central to the town, very close to the bus depot where you can get rides to the various ski resorts, and there are lots of restaurants and bars on the same street. They even have pick-up and drop-off services arranged with some of the ski rental places, which makes it so easy. Great pow pow on the mountains too. I highly recommend it!

We stayed at the Shakespeare for three nights on a ski trip from the US and loved it. The location is perfect both for skiing (across the street from the bus stop with access to all the mountains) and restaurants/nightlife (all that glitters is gold at the Globe Bar) . The room was large and clean and had everything we needed. The hotel took care of everything from breakfast to arranging transport to the ski rental shop. Stay at the Shakespeare to avoid your winter of discontent.

Have stayed at the Shakespeare hotel numerous times and it’s always a great time. Location is perfect with the hotel right across from the shuttle bus station so access to all the slopes is very easy. And the restaurants and bars in the Echoland area are just down the street! The Shakespeare Hotel compound itself has 4 restaurants and a bar so have choices that are super close. Great staff with friendly and nice service. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Hakuba for a great ski trip!!

Staff was very friendly and tries to help you with anything you need. No real language barrier.

Location was very convenient - right near the shuttle bus stop; so many bars and restaurants on premise as well as along the street in walking distance; yoga studio for something else to do/ for stretching after skiing. Will definitely stay here again next time!

Excellent location that’s a stones throw away from the shuttle stop to the slopes, with one of the better bars in echo land area located on the property.

Highly recommend carving out the time for a dinner course at Othello. The food is a cut above any of the other options in the area.

Rooms are simple, but well appointed. English speaking staff is welcoming and helpful in recommending things in the area (dining, ski rentals, hot springs). Will definitely be back.
