About Oyado furuya
Oyado Furuya in Myoko Kogen is a Japanese-style ryokan offering lovely traditional hot springs (onsen) and a traditional Japanese experience. The ryokan has a fabulous location in the heart of Akakura Onsen & close to slopes, restaurants and ski/snowboard rentals.
“Oyado” means a Japanese-style inn & this ryokan is a great spot to enjoy a Japanese experience, with a few western comforts.
Where is Otago Furuya Myoko?
Oyado Furuya is in a great location in the middle of Akakura Onsen village. It’s just a few minutes walk to the nearest lift, and you can almost ski back to the hotel, whilst the restaurants and bars of Akakura are very close by. The hotel is almost opposite Myoko Snowsports shop.
Oyado Furuya is about 10-15 minutes drive from the MyokoKogen train station and arrival and departure transfers are provided.
See the
travel to Myoko Kogen page for information on the location of Myoko and how to get there.
Rooms
Whilst Oyado Furuya is a traditional Japanese-style ryokan (Japanese Inn), they offer western and western-Japanese combo rooms as well as pure traditional Japanese-style rooms. The rooms are spacious and have delightful Japanese décor.
Japanese-western combo rooms - an elegant room with Japanese features and twin western beds.
Deluxe western room with private onsen - rooms with twin western beds and their own private rotenburo (outdoor baths) on the balcony
Japanese-tatami rooms - open Japanese-style rooms with futons on the tatami floor ideal for families
Each room has a TV, and simple tea making facilities.
The rooms have a washbasin and private toilet, and some rooms also have a shower, although you’ll more than likely have an onsen in the hotel bathhouse instead (or your own private onsen if you choose one of those rooms).
Facilities
The ryokan has two types of natural (100%) hot springs /segregated bathhouses. The tatami-buro is a bath surrounded by soft tatami mats, the same fragrant flooring as used in traditional Japanese rooms. This makes it one of the only such onsen of its kind in Japan. The other is the ishi-buro, the stone-floored onsen, with the flooring warmed by the natural hot water. Use of the two indoor onsen rotates daily, so that men and women can enjoy both baths daily.
Other facilities and services:
- wireless internet throughout the hotel
- laundry facilities
- ski and snowboard storage
- drying room
- train station pick-ups
- non-smoking property
Dining
A western or Japanese breakfast is offered each day.
The in-house restaurant specialises in a traditional Japanese Shabu-Shabu (hot pot) which combines thinly-sliced beef that is quickly swished through boiling water, as well as veggies enjoyed with one of several sauces. The meal also includes a wide range of delicious Japanese specialties, with a focus on the best of the season and from the nearby Sea of Japan. If you are staying at Oyado Furuya this is a must do for at least 1 night!
There are also other multi-course meals available at the ryokan or there are various restaurants within very easy walking distance.
