The shopping opportunities at the Mt Cook village are mainly limited to the Hermitage Retail Centre, a large shop located adjacent to the Hermitage Hotel lobby. The shop mainly sells kiwi and Mt Cook souvenirs and Mt Cook photography books. Also on offer: clothing that showcases NZ such as sheepskin boots (although not the good quality type); lots of merino mink apparel; other knitwear; and lots of Icebreaker clothing.

For those staying in the self-contained motel units or chalets, try and stock up on grocery supplies in Lake Tekapo or Twizel before arriving. The Hermitage Retail Centre sells a small range of groceries, frozen goods, and sundries, but at a premium.

A few basic groceries and sundries are also sold at the YHA.
