Wanaka Edge Apartments

17/10/2010
Wanaka Edge provides modern accommodation with pretty fashionable decor and all the comforts of home. The full kitchen was much better than the little kitchenettes that you find in some holiday apartments.

You don't have to pay luxurious prices for this nice accommodation, but it does have a few shortcomings. Firstly don't be fooled that Wanaka Edge means it's on the edge of the lake because it's not. It is on the edge of town with very limited views, and it's walkable but somewhat inconvenient. It's located next to a gymnasium so if you are in an apartment on this side of the complex there's limited privacy and you can hear the aerobics classes. Lying in bed early in the morning knowing you have to do 4 more push-ups is a strange alarm clock.

Other limitations: the beds are a bit saggy, there was a lot of mould in the shower, and I had two cold showers in two days! Thank goodness for the hot tub!

A Good Choice for Apartment Accommodation

17/10/2010
These apartments are a good choice, particularly if you have a car, as they cost only a fraction of equivalent accommodation that's lakeside.

Parts of their website state that this is 5-star accommodation. It's definitely not 5 star or luxurious, but it's very modern and reasonably comfortable for a short or long Wanaka stay. The apartments are on the small side but are fine for space so long as you don't rely on using the pull out couch in the lounge area.

The apartment was nice and cosy in winter, and the heating system is impressive. The only downside is that it's a little tricky to dry your wet ski gear when the heating is in the floor. Otherwise all is good!
