Myoko Powder Tour
Myoko Kogen is renowned for its consistent deep powder and with this Myoko Powder Tour,
Powder Recon can show you the best of the Myoko ski areas, along with nearby ski resorts. With morning guiding Monday to Friday, you’ll be shown the best powder stashes in the off-piste and sidecountry areas, away from the usual haunts that others frequent.
These fixed date Myoko Powder Tours run from Saturday to Saturday from late December to mid March each year, and the tours can be customised during March with respect to trip duration and day of commencement.
There are plenty of tired old hotels and backpacker digs in Myoko, but you won’t be staying in that sort of accommodation. The accommodation included as part of the Myoko Powder Tour package is renovated with Japanese aesthetics as a focus. The lodge accommodation also has communal socialising space.
Akakura Onsen in
Myoko Kogen has the benefit that it has a cute village with lots of eateries including izakayas (small bars where you can drink and order tapas-style food) and some après ski bars, and plenty of onsen. The lodging is really well located in Akakura Onsen, with direct access to the village as well as the Akakura slopes.
Another benefit of the Myoko Powder Tour is the hosting support. As well as inside knowledge of where to find the best powder, Powder Recon can tell you where to find the best food and/or the best izakaya. The staff can also provide support with cultural experiences and other activities such as the snow monkeys, the Zenkoji Temple in Nagano, and soba noodle making.

Resorts Visited
Various ski resorts across Nagano and Niigata may be visited during the tour including
Akakura,
Ikenotaira,
Suginohara,
Seki Onsen,
Togakushi,
Madarao,
Tangram,
Lotte Arai and
Shiga Kogen. Other nearby ski areas that are secret gems may be visited too. Powder Recon is aptly named because they’ve spent a lot of time doing reconnaissance work to scope out all the best powder spots.
Having morning guiding provides the best of both worlds. The guides provide orientation to each ski resort and show you some great powder stashes, and then you’ve got the afternoon to explore the zones at your own leisure, or you can rip it!
Ability Level
The Myoko Powder Tour is ideal for strong intermediate to advanced off-piste riders who are comfortable riding powder and playing in the trees. Intermediate skiers and snowboarders are also welcome to ride on-piste at their leisure.
Guests are grouped according to ability level. This stratification and the size of the Powder Recon company offers a big advantage over some very small tour companies that only have one group where frustration from ability divergence can result.
Or if you have your own posse that you know likes to ride just like you, you can
enquire about a premium private tour where you can stay in the apartments and have your own guide.
