Kazakhstan Nomadic Backcountry Tour - New for 2024

This 11 day fully hosted and guided Kazakhstan Nomadic Tour is for intrepid skiers and snowboarders that want to go somewhere different, far away from the usual powder chasing trips. It is a backcountry trip that includes snowcat skiing and ski touring/splitboarding.

The Adventure Project are specialists at offering the coveted combination of cultural experiences and chasing untouched powder, and this Central Asian country offers it in spades. Kazakhstan offers the ultimate snow adventure that couples dry Kazakh pow with varied terrain and a rich cultural history.

The tour starts in the Ridder area in the east of Kazakhstan. Ridder is 1,210km northeast of the city of Almaty, which is where the “high-profile” Kazakhstan ski resorts are located. Access is via a 1.5 hour flight to Ust-Kamennogorsk and then a 2-hour transfer to the Ridder chalet.

Ridder is a remote area where you can enjoy the solitude. The small town is nestled in a valley surrounded by the rugged Altai Mountains, which provide diverse ski and snowboard terrain in open alpine bowls and forested areas. From your base in Ridder, you’ll enjoy 2 days of ski touring and then 3 days of snowcat accessed skiing or riding.

The 2nd part of the trip is further south in the vicinity of Almaty where you’ll stay 2 nights in a yurt to fully immerse yourself in the Kazakhstan nomadic life. From the yurt, you’ll go ski touring/splitboarding.

The nomadic tour also includes a couple of nights in the city of Almaty which is the largest city in Kazakhstan. Vibrant Almaty will provide another opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture.
