Selkirk Powder Cat Skiing

If you’ve never been cat skiing before, Selkirk Powder Cat Skiing is the perfect opportunity to give it a try whilst combining it with a ski vacation at Schweitzer! Doctors warning: Cat skiing is highly addictive and symptoms of withdrawal may include intense cravings, irritability, anxiety, and powder hallucinations. The only treatment is to partake in powder skiing therapy sessions that include more cat skiing!

With the Selkirk Powder Guides snowcat skiing tours you get a great powder skiing or snowboarding experience with varied terrain, lots of untracked snow, and fun and experienced guides.

When you’re out cat skiing with Selkirk Powder Guides, you won’t need nine lives when you can just enjoy the one you’ve got! You’ve now heard it on the grapevine from this powder canine that Selkirk Powder is rather divine! Check out our review and the Selkirk Powder Cat Skiing overview for more information.

A Day Out Cat Skiing

0800 AM
Register at the Selkirk Powder Guides desk in Schweitzer Mountain’s Lakeview Lodge. You’ll complete registration documents and be fitted for an avalanche beacon, then watch a safety video and receive your complimentary lift pass for the ride up to the Operations Center on the summit.

If you need equipment rentals, you can organise these the evening prior, or quickly do it before registration. The two options are Schweitzer Ski and Ride Center (208-255-3070) or the Alpine Shop (208-255-1660).

0900 AM
As you offload from the lift you’ll be met by your guide and led towards the Summit Operations Center to complete your safety briefing and gear check. Now you’re ready to drop into the backcountry for skiing and riding fun! The snowcat will be waiting for you at the bottom of your first run, ready to whisk you back up for more powder cat skiing.

Fuel
You’ll eat the specially prepared lunch on the snowcat, and drinks and snacks will be provided throughout the day.

3:00 to 3:30 PM
After about six hours of cat skiing, the group will drop back into the ski resort. Your victory lap will be to ski down one of the resort’s trails on the front side to the village-based reception area. After checking back in and returning your beacon, you can pick up a Selkirk Powder Guides souvenir if you wish.

After that you can opt to visit one of the Schweitzer Village bars and toast to an amazing day of epic powder turns.
