Alta Peruvian Lodge
The Alta Peruvian Lodge at Alta Ski Resort - great food, great ski culture, and great ambience. The Alta Peruvian is full of character and charm, and the culture of the lodge well represents the soul of skiing. The Peruvian almost has its own village within one building. Other than to ski, you probably don’t need to leave this building on your ski holiday as it has plenty of facilities and a ready-made social life.
The Alta Peruvian Lodge has an interesting history in that the building used to be a world war II nurses’ barracks that was transported up the mountain and re-connected to form a ski lodge.
Where is the Alta Peruvian Located?
The Peruvian is located a little way over from the Wildcat base at
Alta Utah and is sort of ski-in ski-out, but it depends on various factors. The Wildcat base is a short 3 minute walk across the car park, or if the trail is well groomed you can tuck and just skate the last 10 seconds. On the way home, expert skiers can ski down the Wildcat Bowl and tuck the last 20 metres. Non-expert skiers can either walk the 3 minutes back from the Wildcat base, or catch the free lodge shuttle bus.
Lodge Rooms
The Alta Peruvian Lodge has various room styles including dorm rooms, twin rooms with shared bath (but own vanity and basin), queen and twin rooms with private bath, and suites. All rooms have internet access. The rooms aren’t opulent, but ooze simplistic rustic charm. Some of them are quite small, but considering the good rates and the little time you’ll spend in your room, you won’t mind the cosiness.
Facilities
The rest of the lodge is far from plain, and the décor feels a little luxurious albeit homely and old-fashioned. The lounge is a social place where you can partake in BYO après, play board games and enjoy the views. There is also a gigantic television room, grand piano, ski rental/repair workshop, laundry facilities, table tennis, and the list goes on and on. The ski shop stocks beer, ski clothing and accessories, and Alta souvenirs, and it’s likely that you’ll pick up a good bargain here. And if you haven’t appreciated the Alta mountain vistas enough, you can get some more eye candy in the outdoor pool and hot tub, an amazingly social way to soak the tired muscles.
The upstairs bar opens at 4:30pm and can be a buzzing from après ski time into the evening. It’s a very cosy, cool bar, and is a favourite with the locals.
Dining
Three meals a day in the restaurant are included in the rates. Breakfast and lunch are buffet-style and are very nice, but dinner is a smashingly gastronomical delight. You’ll have to ski hard to work off all the delicious calories you’ll consume in the restaurant. A four course a la carte meal includes mouth-watering dishes that the chef can only be congratulated for. Topped off with great wine, attentive service and colorful company around the family-sized tables, the dinner experience is amazing.
Why Stay at the Alta Peruvian Lodge?
