Me and my dad drove over to Killington for a day of skiing during our family trip to Stratton. It was a decent snowfall year and they just had a long stretch of cold, prime snowmaking temps. So despite the fact that OUR day was hot and sunny, in the high 30’s, the coverage was great and the slush was top notch. We decided to stay in Stratton as opposed to the bigger Killington because Stratton has cross country skiing right at the mountain (for my mother-in-law), and every place near Killington was much farther away. And also, the town of Stratton looked a lot more picturesque to me, a strip that you can walk n shop in and some good restaurants was a higher priority than skiable acreage. Killington didn’t really have anything like that as far as I could tell.

Im giving Killington a 3 for snow. We had some top notch slush that was a blast to rip around on, but there was some serious ice in the trees and on the moguls. Also did the double black diamond run Cascade first thing and it was groomed but pretty hard ice that just didn’t have enough grip to make you feel good. However on parts of the mountain that saw sun, the snow quality was great for ripping around their many, many terrain parks.

For Uncrowded I give Killington a 3. We went on a Thursday and it wasn’t bad at all, we basically walked right onto to every lift all day. Butttt we heard lots of people saying the weekends are horrendous and it gets kinda “rowdy”… whatever that means. Lol

To me the lifts at Killington are about as perfect as you can get. They’re almost all either express lifts or gondolas right where you’d want them to be. Im a geek for different gondolas and Killington and some pretty cool designs on their Skyeship gondola. 5/5

Me n dad had a blast ripping through the groomers here at high speed. We both agreed that the rolling groomers were more fun at Stratton but we both loved Killington’s piste runs. There was plenty of little sidehits for me, and conditions were perfect for him to get comfortable and push some higher speeds. Side note, I hate moguls, but it seems like if you liked moguls than Killington has some particularly intense, long, steep, mogulled, runs. 4/5

There was some serious potential for off-piste to be good at Killington. We rode some trees off Ramshead that were kinda cool. Our conditions didn’t really warrant it but I could tell there is some killer tree riding to be had. Under one of the lifts really reminded me of Brighton, Utah with so many cool rock drops, and small cliff looking features... just needed some snow. 4/5

For child friendliness I scored Killington middle of the road. For 1 thing, theres no a base village to walk around and shop and eat and distract that side of the family. But there do appear to have a pretty big beginner area for the newbies to learn on which is nice. 3/5

For Value I gave Killington a 4. It’s on the Ikon pass, 5 free days included with the regular pass. Not as good as unlimited obviously. But you get a lotttttt of mountain for that. And a good lift infrastructure which seems to be what you’re paying for most of the time.

Lastly for Nightlife / Apres I gave them a 4 despite not experiencing it one bit myself. Theres a place called the Wobbly Barn, great name, we were dying to go but the timing just didn’t work out. But this place is supposed to be amazing for Apres-ski and it turns into some sort of night club later in the evening. 4/5

Finally, would I go back to Killington? I would. Most likely I see myself going back on a guys trip where we’re just lapping the 4-5 parks they have here. Including Danny Davis’s Peak Park, The Stash park with all of its tree and wood features, and the plethora of other parks of all sizes.

Best resort in the East

It was a great resort, especially for the east. Narrower trails and no bowls mean less acreage than in some places in the West, but the resort footprint felt just as big. Snow was passable, but good for the East.
