I went to Targhee and bought 3 full-priced lift tickets. I learned after the fact that my local season pass entitled me to Mountain Collective benefits. The Activities Center was unwilling to provide a refund. Interestingly, the two people I spoke to (Kaylene and Savannah) both had very different reasons for why they wouldn't refund me, neither of which were honest or honorable.

I was stupid for not reading the fine print, they were greedy and unethical.

Targhee used to be a great mountain when its prices were competitive and they offered Snowcat skiing. Now lift tickets cost almost as much as Jackson Hole ($135 vs. $200) as does the food and lodging. Jackson Hole is an infinitely better mountain, and Jackson or Teton Village, WY are infinitely better places to stay than Victor or Driggs, ID.

Don't waste your time and money at Targhee, they certainly don't deserve it.

Skied here on a weekday powder day. Sketchy road up the hill. Not a huge amount of challenging terrain or vertical. Lift system is fairly efficient. No lift lines. Beautiful scenery. Snow is better than the Sierras, but not as good as the Cottonwoods. I had fun, no complaints, but wouldn’t want to ski here regularly.

If you had to pick one resort in the lower 48 for your best chance at a deep pow day, targhee would be my pick. Its not a steep mountain but it makes up for that with pow. Lift lines are never long and the mountain never feels crowded. For me its a 2-3day trip resort then you can head over to jackson hole resort and get your fix on some gnarly terrain for the reminder of your trip. It definitely has a small resort vibe. I've skied and ridden more powder days at Grand Targhee then hard pack days. It just dumps a lot.

I want to preface this review with I don’t do these. However, I was treated so poorly by a property management company that I felt compelled to post this. My family stayed in a property managed by the Grand Targhee Property Management from March 26th – March 28th 2021. At that time, I had lost my gold and platinum wedding ring somewhere on the property. We chased down the hot tub guy and he said he had just cleaned the hot tub and didn’t see it. So, we drove back to Colorado very sad. I contacted by phone the resort two days later and got bounced around and finally ended up with the property management company. I spoke to a woman on the phone who informed me that they had found my ring. I was elated! She said she could charge a credit card $2.00 for postage and would the postal service be OK? I said yes thinking a 50-cent bubble envelope and $1.50 postage. They said the postal service was slow up there and it might be a week. On June 1st I received a plain white envelope with the resort’s logo on it and a 51-cent stamp. The corner had been ripped out and there was nothing but a sticky note with my name and address. This was postmarked May 29th. I contacted a person named Rob Sourek <[email protected]> who was the Director of Guest Services . He was cordial and said he would look into it. At the time I explained I had three questions. Why did you charge me $2.00 for shipping if you were just going to use a 51-cent stamp? Why was this not sent somewhat quickly? 59 days? This WAS my wedding ring. And lastly, but obviously most importantly, did you really put a platinum and gold ring in a plain white envelop and put a stamp on it? Someone’s wedding ring? Mr. Sourek sent me these “answers”. He actually tried to blame the postal service. Sill no answer on why it wasn’t even mailed (I can’t believe they mailed it) for 59 days. A legitimate question. Mr. Sourek no longer answers emails. The last email I got had these two beauties. “Please rest assured that this is not the norm up here, and we value you and all patrons of our property”. And “I personally would love to connect with you, should you and your family ever visit Grand Targhee again, I would like to make this right”. What a joke. I see no attempt to value our patronage or make things right. These people are either colossally stupid and without any common sense, or they just don’t care. One of those last two beauties isn’t true. If they would have taken the time to do what’s right, I would still have my ring and this review would have been glowing. I would suggest you don’t do business with an organization with such a callous disregard for guests in their resort. I get no answers or responses to why I no longer have my wedding ring.

Myself and my team would have expected more from our US Postal Service, and it’s associate honest practices.
It’s difficult for me assume that someone maliciously removed your wedding ring from the envelope, but the torn envelope in your photo leads me to wonder.

Targhee's parking lot completely filled around 8:30am which requires you to ride their shuttle system which is slow and unreliable. Locals are probably aware of this and are able to plan ahead, but there was no obvious warning on their website. I spent an additional 3 hours getting to the resort. I paid for a full day ticket, but was only able to ski a half day as a result. They refused to refund the difference. Very disappointed by the time wasted and the poor/disrespectful customer service team that refused to any attempts at restitution.

Grand Targhee used to hold the coveted position as the best US ski area for powder hounds as rated by Powderhounds.com, but it’s going down to the wire as we finalise our reviews because it’s no longer a deserted ski area (and many other powder gems are also become increasingly busier). The locals reported that Grand Targhee has got much busier in the past 6-7 years, and that was our experience too (at least they can’t blame the Ikon Pass!). Instead of freshies lasting all day as in the past, it was more of a 2 hour proposition. Of course it’s all relative and lots of Americans would think Grand Targhee was super quiet, especially compared to Jackson Hole and the many other high profile US ski resorts. It’s no wonder that when Americans head to Niseko Japan (the busiest ski resort in Japan) that they think Niseko is uncrowded! It all comes down to what you’re used to.

We stayed for a few days (you can see our review of the Teewinot Lodge). Initially there were a couple of non-powder days and the groomed runs at Grand Targhee were pretty impressive for a few hours, but then we got bored (apologies but we’re powder hounds and need a daily fix of powder!). Thankfully the storm arrived and we were greeted one morning with 8” of incredibly light dry powder. This was awesome, except the snow was so light that I could feel most of the bumps underneath. One exception was when I went in waist deep on Ladies’ Waist!

Overall, Grand Targhee remains a rather extraordinary ski area for powder hounds. It’s not as good as one of the lesser known Japanese ski areas, but by US standards it offers a reasonable chance of scoring freshies. Most of the terrain isn’t particularly steep, but when the snow is on, which it is often, it’s a mighty lot of fun.

One of the best places I've been. I went there and in two days 42 inches of powder fell and it was rad! The wind took its toll on the snow later on but really a sweet resort.

Targhee can be a mighty field when it snows- but it didn't when we there. Off trail was tracked out and hard snow, so we stuck to the trails. Which were fine - but don't expect a lot of variety. Lots of interesting other stuff to do - snow shoeing, snow bikes, Yellowstone not far away.

Targhee is worth the trip over Teton pass if you're spending some time in Jackson. There are hardly ever lift lines even on deep days so if you're looking for all day laps this is the place. Great sidecountry access as well. Ticket prices are reasonable. Check out the knotty pine down the road for their show line ups for apres or just a solid meal.
