Just got back! Tons of new snow!! Did not get to ski the Matterhorn/Zermatt (back side of Cervinia). Trails are very nice. Lifts and ticket system are state-of-the art.
CAUTION: We rented a car which was a big mistake(?). Getting out of Milan (Linate Airport) was hell. Once we did so, the road to Cervinia was smooth. Once we got into Cervinia, not only was our GPS (Google on Android) phone completely confused, so were the locals!! It was not until the next day that we finally found our condo. None of the streets are marked, so good luck finding anything. The parking spots at the condo were so incredibly ridiculously tightly spaced, we could not get out for 24 hrs., until the car next to us left!!
SUMMARY: I would love to go back, provided I have a local driver ;). Food and coffee are delicious (women are cute, too).

Just finished my second day in the resort early, due to wind closures. Started the day in Valtourneche, which I thought would give me the jump on the queues as online it says the telecabin starts at 8.30. It kicked off at 9.20, for no apparent reason. That lift goes up to two succesive chairs leading up the mountain. The first is an easy blue, the second not much more exciting, but marked as red. Plenty of short powder turns available. At about 12 the link to Cervinia opened, but it closed at 2.30, so I'm now waiting on a bus to take me back to my car at Valtourneche.
Yesterday wasa better day, plenty of free carparking 200m from the lifts. Skied most of the field in a day, and had a 200m ski in Switzerland along the top of the field (if I read the maps right). Didnt pay for the international pass, so had to stick to the Italian side. Some easy powder turns available, but most of the skiing is easy reds and blues. It seems like the ideal place to teach your mom, child or new partner to ski. Apres at Love Apres Ski bar is a lot of fun.

In summary, the main attraction is probably the cheaper lift ticket to Zermatt ( Euro 71 in Cervinia, Euro95 in Zermatt) , but its a nice place for some easy powder and lots of cruising on piste. If you're in the area, check it out for a few days, but watch out for links closing if its windy. A bus to Valtourneche isn't expensive, but an unplanned night in Zermatt will be.

The best red run is the middle Cervinia red run into lower Cervinia. It's a long long way from the top, and is faster and steeper. than the lower village run into Voluentouche. Some of the red runs on the side are really gentle blues, not much, but there are so many you can find steeper ones here and there. Reliable snow, but gets crowded even though lifts are good, because of the gentleness of the runs, plenty of kids and families.

Visited Jan 2019. Managed to get there right in the middle of a dry patch that lasted a full 5 days... Good base, variety and the last day of riding gave us a cheeky top up of 15cms or so. This kept my husband and I amused while our mates spent the day in icy pricey Zermatt.

I thought there were good facilities on the mountain (we are easily pleased as we usually go for places with less facilities).

The town had a variety of pubs and accom. We stayed in an apartment that housed 5 adults, two teens (admittedly one room was more of a wardrobe!) that backed onto a short run down to the town lift and across the road from the main cableway.

Overall, fun terrain and good atmosphere that I didn’t have to sacrifice my firstborn for. Will go back!

Seven of us visited Cervinia in January. Unfortunately this season has seen the resort mostly closed due to high winds.

We enjoyed one calm blue bird day and made the most of the dry hard pack up above 2500m.

It took several weeks skiing in the mega resorts of France to truly appreciate Cervinia. In France we had seen overpriced food, soul destroying lift lines and fresh snow smashed in minutes. Having been previously, I was admittedly underwhelmed at the prospect of coming back to Cervinia. High winds had limited our skiing during the previous visit and with the French experience fresh in my mind, I was concerned that the weekend crowd would have already smashed the powder that feel a few days earlier. Turns out, my concerns were baseless.

We arrived in the village of Breuil Cervinia on a Sunday evening, exhausted. The sight of the Monte Cervinio (Matterhorn) looming over the town never gets old and immediately sparked up our spirits. Dinner sparked them up further. Quality food and drink at bargain prices. Aahhhh.... Italy. A glorious morning saw us ski Cervinia under blue skies and no wind. The high altitude and cold temperatures meant the wide easy piste trails were in perfect condition. Few people were in evidence, no lift queues and the coffee, pasta, apres ski drinks and generally ambiance were wonderful, such a contrast to France, which was now a distant, fading memory. 

The snowpack was deep, but the off piste was variable from one side of the resort to the other. Anyone with their powder sensors on, quickly located the goods in the shaded north facing slopes above the Lago Goillet and Cieloalto. These two older, slow chairs offer up superb terrain, snow quality and even fun tree-skiing in larch forest with a requisite amount of challenge to enthuse even the most discerning of Powderhounds.  We skied deep, untracked lines with a little effort. With more effort we could have done so for the next few days - sadly there is never enough time........

From a piste point of view, the trails are generally for upper beginners and intermediates. Cervinia has one of the world's best beginner ski slopes at the Plan Maison with the Matterhorn as your backdrop (see photo). The other piste trails are super fast and super long from the glacier at Plateau Rosa (3480m) and Theodulpass all the way to the bottom. Advanced skiers will love the length and speed, but the off piste is for you. Make sure to head to Valtournenche and do the valley run all the way through the village down to the gondola base. Set your skies to 'fast' and enjoy the ride!

The town of Breuil Cervinia is still on the ugly side, but grows on you slowly. In such a stunning surround you start to appreciate some of the funky architecture and other quirks like Italy's best located petrol station (see photos). Some fine restaurants, bars and nightspots give the town a lovely feel at night.

Coming to Cervinia should be a part of anyone's European skiing experience. And of course you can always ski to Zermatt in Switzerland. Naturally coming from the Italian side is cheaper than if you were to do the same thing from Switzerland. Aahhh Italy.

What a cracking mountain.
Skied Cervinia in early February. This resort represents all that is great about skiing in Italy.
Great food and booze at very reasonable prices. Spectacular views including the Italian side of the Matterhorn and truckloads of powder stashes.
In somewhat of a trend for our Euro ski trip for 2018 we skied Cervinia several days after snow last fell. We still found waist deep powder in bowls and in the trees.
I highly recommend Cervinia as a must visit resort.
One word of advice. Ensure your skis are clipped in after any apres shenanigans.

We stayed in Valtournenche just a few klicks down the road from Cervinia. The village is very well served with 2 bakeries, 2 delicatessens, a fruit and veg shop, a creamery making cheese .....the list goes on. Skiing on the Italian side is fast, easy cruisy runs, perfecto if you're an Italian who just wants to look cool on the slopes; or indeed any other nationality for that matter. The powder is largely left untouched but you'll have to hunt around for decent inclines to use it on. There some good, if rather short runs through the pow on the lower slopes of Monte Cervinia itself! Otherwise, head on over to Zermatt, chalk and cheese. There's loads of off-piste but it gets skied-out very quickly when there's been some fresh. The Gandeggehutte is highly recommended for lunch, no running water it's a rambling old wooden house/chalet a wee bit of walking/skating to get there but well worth it.
Heli-skiing from the Cervinia side remarkably cheap and then there's all the powder you can shake a ski pole at!

Sitting snugly below the Matterhorn, the village of Cervinia is in a beautiful location, but is itself quite ugly. Getting over ones initial disappointment, the skiing makes up for it.

With high winds disrupting some lifts up high, we based ourselves in Valtournenche. We spent time sampling the long (1400m vertical) top to bottom runs from the Cime Bianche through Salette all the way to Valtournenche & eating! Because whilst the skiing was good, there was not much powder during our visit, so eating is the obvious alternative. 

Cervinia has a plethora of high quality (but not high priced) mountain bars & rifugios. Try any of them. You wont be disappointed. A quirky one off the ski hill between Valtournenche & Breuil Cervinia (accessible by car only) is the Ristorante Lo Gurfo.

Cervinia is a great value place to ski & stay, particularly as it is linked to Zermatt (when the wind doesn't put the cable cars on hold!!). An alternative is the excellent Aosta. What can be better than having a central base, an easy day trip from heaps of resorts including Cervinia, & being surrounded by 2000 year old Roman ruins, gates & monuments. Great way to round out a ski trip.

2015 was an El nino year, so mid Decemeber skiing was a bad idea. Snow was fine in the morning but afternoon was icy. This is early season but the Cervinia side was already crowded. Waiting for the Matterhorn Paradise cable car was already quite crowded, can't imagine what it will be like during the peak season. Many of the runs were red, and for a beginner, that's not such a great place to be. It will really help if you have a few lessons before going up the slopes which was what I did. Valtournenche side is quieter than the Cervinia side. Overall, the Italians are really nice people and food wise is nice. Rent the ski's before going to the slopes, shops outside of the main ski place have nicer service with a smile and have better equipment
