Pila's not the biggest, highest, most well known resort in Italy. It's certainly overshadowed by some of the bigger ones around. But for what we were after it was absolutely perfect!

Ease of access, quiet runs, plenty of difficulty levels to pick from, a mostly modern lift system and some lovely on mountain dining options are just some of the reasons you should go!

We actually chose to go to Pila because of the ease of access. Getting off the train from Turin, hopping straight onto the gondola and walking into the resort was far too easy! No car/bus/taxi required which was great.

The lifts are mostly modern detachables, aside from some old fixed grips servicing the steepest terrain.

The runs are long, nice and wide, and offer plenty to mix up your day. My personal favourite was Run 2, serviced by the Chamolè chair which I almost had to myself at times. The steepest areas were interesting, but it's realistically not a resort for the experts, it a haven for intermediates. Similarly, beginners don't have a huge amount of terrain, but there is some clear incentive for them to progress!

The main issue is run 15, and how it is the main choke point for the entire resort. It's not particularly wide and fills up with a mix of skill levels. It is almost impossible to move between areas without relying on it.

So did I enjoy it? Absolutely. I loved my couple of days there and would gladly return!

Love Pila, nice wide slopes always lots of snow. Good facilities, and a cable car to Aosta for shopping. Not one for apre ski, not a lots going on in the evenings, at our age after a day on the slopes and dinner we dont need much. Been coming here for the last 10 years. It is quite busy at weekends but we are only here during the week. No queues for lifts and a good variety of reasonably priced restaurants on the slopes. Would recommend.

Pila should be known for the excellence of its calimeros & bombardinos as much as its skiing.

Nearly getting bowled over near the village by a beginner could have had just as much to do my enjoyment of a liquid lunch as the lack of control of the beginner.

Thank god I could download to Aosta and have a comfortable snooze in the car. A full valley ski run may well have done me in!

Pila is a most underrated ski resort. With our expectations low, we were more than pleasantly surprised to find that Pila was a far more than we bargained for.

Aside from a few dodgy old and very slow chairlifts serving the steep terrain and a dangerous choke point on the main return piste trail to the village, there are only good things to spruik about Pila.

We loved the ease of access from Aosta via the gondola (and the return ride down from the mid station at Plan Praz). We loved the variety of bars & restaurants in the village and on the hill. Our pick was Societe - an out of the way cafe bar restaurant buried in snow and with sun soaked views of the alpine bowls.

We loved the piste trails (with the exception of trail 15 near the village). We loved the variety of terrain. We loved the sheltered tree lined lower runs. We loved the lift ticket price. We loved the steep alpine bowls. We loved the snow quality & deep untracked powder 5 days after the last snowfall. We loved the lack of people on most of the mountain. We even loved that Pila is snowboard friendly (aside from the flat connecting trail between the La Nouva & Couis1 chairs) and we didn't even have a snowboarder with us!

Pila is not perfect & that is what makes its perfect. What are you going to love about it?
