Arrowtown Accommodation
Arrowtown is a small historic village with cute restaurants, bars and shops. Staying in Arrowtown accommodation provides a lovely quiet alternative to the bustling Queenstown. Arrowtown lodging includes some up-market BnBs and boutique hotels.
Arrowtown is 20km northeast of Queenstown and it’s still reasonably easy to get to the ski resorts. From Arrowtown it’s 21km to Coronet Peak (compared to 16km from QT), 46km to Cardrona (compared to 58km from QT) and 31km to The Remarkables (compared to 24km from QT). Arrowtown is not well connected via public transport or ski shuttle buses, so having a car would be ideal.
Arthurs Point Accommodation
Arthurs Point accommodation is an ideal base for those wanting to ski at Coronet Peak because it’s only 2km from the access road to the ski field and about 5km north of central Queenstown. There are a handful of Arthur’s Point restaurants and bars, and lodging in this area is definitely more economical than downtown Queenstown.
Central Accommodation Queenstown
Central Queenstown accommodation is highly sought after, so you may need to pay a premium for direct access to downtown Queenstown and its many restaurants, bars and shops. Central accommodation in Queenstown also potentially provides the advantage of proximity to the hub for shuttles to the Queenstown ski resorts.
Esplanade Queenstown Hotels
Queenstown hotels and other accommodation in this zone mostly sit on Lake Esplanade on the shores of Lake Wakitipu. Many offer lake views and are within walking distance of the centre of Queenstown.
Fernhill Hotels Queenstown
The Fernhill area of Queenstown is located about 2.5km southwest of downtown Queenstown. Perched up on a hill, many of the Fernhill hotels offer magnificent views across Lake Wakitipu and The Remarkables. Local buses and hotel shuttles connect this area with the Queenstown CBD.
Frankton & Remarkables Park
Frankton is a suburb of Queenstown and is located 7km east of central Queenstown. This is mostly a residential area and the Remarkables Park adjacent to the Queenstown Airport is a shopping precinct for the locals. If the bright lights of Queenstown aren't a priority, this area has the advantage of easier access to the ski resorts (a rental car would be advantageous). Frankton and Remarkables Park accommodation is only about 3.5km to the start of The Remarkables Ski Resort access road. Coronet Peak is also reasonably easy to access without getting caught in the traffic mayhem of central Queenstown. This region is also on the right side of Queenstown to easily drive to Cardrona Ski Resort.
Kelvin Heights
Kelvin Heights is located on the southern shores of the Frankton Arm of Lake Wakatipu, close to the access road to The Remarkables Ski Resort. It’s a quiet spot and properties tend to offer lovely lake views. If you don’t have a car, you can access downtown Queenstown via hotel shuttles or water taxis.
Lake Hayes Accommodation
Lake Hayes is a tranquil part of the Queenstown region. It is a picturesque area, particularly for properties overlooking the lake. Lake Hayes accommodation tends to provide very good value for money.
Queenstown Accommodation
You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to Queenstown accommodation! In addition to the standard Queenstown hotels, motels, lodges, and backpacker hostels, there are also bed and breakfast options. Not all accommodation in Queenstown is within easy walking distance of the town, and of course you'll also need transport to get to the ski resorts. If you don’t have a
rental car, considerations when choosing Queenstown accommodation may include their proximity to bus stops for shuttles into Central Queenstown and bus stops for the inexpensive shuttles to The Remarkables and Coronet Peak ski resort.  Alternatively you can pay a little more for a hotel pick-up service to the ski resorts. And if you're looking for ski-in ski-out accommodation in Queenstown, you might be dreaming!
Accommodation in Queenstown East
The accommodation in Queenstown that’s east of the downtown area is perched up on the hill above Lake Wakitipu, so many the Queenstown apartments and hotels provide gorgeous views across the lake and to The Remarkables mountains. This area is connected to Queenstown CBD via the public bus system or the walking track along the lake.
