Baguales Mountain Reserve Argentina
Cat skiing at the Baguales Mountain Reserve in Argentina brings together the serenity of being in a remote and pristine backcountry area of Patagonia, with the delights of skiing or snowboarding gorgeous untouched powder. It’s hard to know whether a powder hound will salivate more over the phenomenal Andes backdrop or over the seemingly endless number of powder lines.
And having a
snowcat for the uphill mode of transport means that you can save time and energy for heading downhill in pursuit of those delicious deep powder turns. (If you’re not quite sure what cat skiing is, check out our overview of
snowcat skiing).
Baguales Cat Skiing packages can be combined with some skiing at
Cerro Catedral near Bariloche, but it’s probably best to start your vacation at Catedral. The snow quality at Reservas Baguales is renowned for being drier and superior to that of Catedral, and after the amazing experience of snowcat or heli skiing skiing, you may never be able to return to the crowds and chopped up snow at the ski resort!
Baguales Lodge
“Baguales” means feral or wild, and whilst wild horses may have once roamed the lands, there is definitely nothing feral about staying at the lodge. The main Baguales Lodge offers upscale accommodation in large double bedrooms with private ensuite. The lodge has sophisticated furniture, luxury rugs, a billiards table, and a large open fireplace as the centre-piece for après banter. There are also two self-contained cabins.
Dinner usually consists of a very hearty meal that features meat (no surprise there) or fish that can be accompanied with some renowned Argentinian wine.
