Lyngen Private Guided Backcountry Ski Touring Days
Overview
"A Ski Mountaineer's Dream"..... Sea level to 1,800m, fjords, icefields, no crowds and no lifts, the Lyngen Alps are waiting for you to discover them. These mountains offer exploration like no other mountain range in the world. Why? Well that's because you probably haven't heard of them, and if you have, you most likely don't know much about them (or maybe you do and that's why you are looking at this!). To do Lyngen Alps properly you need to be here and experience this special mountain range for at least a week with a local certified guide. Don't worry about being stuck on an island or having to drive 4 hours to manage the weather. From the guides' central base in Lyngseidet, all corners of the Lyngen Alp peninsula can be easily and efficiently accessed. Your time is valuable, this tour wont waste it!
These trips are perfectly designed for intermediate and advanced ski tourers/split boarders with adventure in their heart.
The ideal time to ski here begins in March and can last all the way until the end of May when you can ski in the sun 24 hours of the day. It is truly a unique experience being able to sleep in and then ski alpenglow at 11pm in the evening. Hire your own private guide for your group of up to 6 people on any day from the 19th March to 21st May. A fixed rate price per tour means the bigger your group (up to a maximum of 6 people) the less it costs for each member .

Ski Terrain & Snow
Terrain is varied and will be matched with the capacity of the group. Options for easy ascents & wide-open alpine bowl descents are available, as are more technical, physical ascents with steep couloir descents. A daily tour runs for an average of 9hr and depending on the group can skin between 1,200 & 2000m vertical in a day.
Snow conditions vary greatly from the start of the touring season to the end. Powder days are always possible (particularly at higher altitudes with north-aspects) but more likely in March & April. Spring corn snow is prevalent throughout the later stages of the season from late April to June. Of course, anything can happen in the mountains, so one should be prepared for all conditions.
Meeting Point & Transport
Tours start at the village of Lyngseidet, in the heart of the Lyngen Alps. The best way to get there is by rental car from Tromso. Start time is 8am in the morning (unless otherwise informed) and the tour runs for around 9hr. The guide has the ability to transport up to two guests but otherwise your own rental car is relied upon for any personal transport during the tour. All rental cars hired in the region are fully equipped for the local winter conditions.
Guides, Group Size & Safety
Your guide is an industry professional with excellent local knowledge to find the best untracked snow and the safest conditions.
The size of the group is limited to a maximum of 6 skiers/splitboarders per guide.
Avalanche safety gear (beacon, shovel & probe) is mandatory for all participants. ABS backpacks are recommended but not mandatory. In order to ensure everyone can use it, a quick but efficient safety briefing will be conducted prior to skiing.
Technical & Personal Requirements
Ski Ability
A variety of ski abilities can be catered for on the private tour, however it is best if all group members are of the same standard, and ideally come with previous ski-touring/split-boarding experience. Experience in off-piste skiing & snowboarding is useful. The ability to turn in all types of snow conditions on the downhill is a requirement. The tour caters best to strong intermediate to advanced riders.
Fitness
Good physical condition is a benefit in order to fully enjoy the day. Skinning a minimum of 1,200m+ vertical is included in the 9hr day, but he guide will adjust this according to the group's abilities, wants & needs.
Food & Drink
Food & drink during the day is your responsibility, but can be purchased locally before a tour, or provided by your hotel.
Accommodation
As groups will likely have your own rental car, accommodation choice can include in Tromso or more locally in the Lyngen Alps. The Magic Mountain Lodge is a good option near the tour start point of Lyngseidet.
