Aspen Lodging
When you visit
Aspen Snowmass on a ski vacation, there are lots of lodgings to choose from. Aspen Snowmass is enormous, so the first choice to make is the area you want to stay in. Most Aspen Snowmass accommodations could be broadly categorized into four areas or types.
Aspen Town – Close to the Gondola: Accommodations here provide the distinct advantage of easy access to Aspen Mountain and all that the town has to offer.
Aspen Town – Other: Lodging here may require a bit of a walk or a shuttle bus ride to get to any of the ski areas.
Snowmass: Snowmass lodging is mostly ski-in ski-out to the
Snowmass ski resort. Snowmass is particularly popular with families.
Aspen Highlands: The base area has a small amount of lodging that provides convenient access to the
Aspen Highlands ski area.
Aspen Hotels Close to the Slopes
Most of the Aspen hotels at the south end of town are conveniently very close to the slopes of
Aspen Mountain. There is very little true ski-in ski-out lodging in Aspen, but staying near the gondola is still a very prime location and many of the best Aspen hotels are located here.

Aspen Lodging Requiring a Walk or Bus Ride
The town of Aspen has lots of other lodging options that aren’t as close to the gondola or lift and require a decent walk or a shuttle bus ride. Some of these Aspen lodging options fall into the modest price bracket, but there are also deluxe Aspen hotels at the northern end of town.
These Aspen accommodations provide easy access to the
Aspen restaurants, bars and shops.

Snowmass Lodging
The
Snowmass ski resort base has a reasonably large village that has a range of lodging options and much of it is ski-in ski-out, or very close to it. Staying at Snowmass is particularly popular with families. The nightlife is reasonably quiet but there is a decent range of restaurants and shops.
Much of the Snowmass lodging consists of upscale condos and hotels, but there are also some properties that fall into the moderate and economical price range.
Snowmass Village Accommodation – Fanny Hill Area
An abundance of ski-in ski-out accommodation is located along the Fanny Hill ski run which aligns with Carriage Way or the lanes off it, and the bottom of Wood Road.
Accommodations near the
Base Village (towards the northeast end of Carriage Way near the intersection with Wood Rd) have huge advantages from a location perspective. Three main lifts ascend from this area. The base village has a focus of amenities, but in particular this is the hub of kids’ activities. If you’re using child care or kids’ ski school, or have complete novice skiers or boarders in your group, staying in this area will be very handy. The base village is also the meeting place for adult snowboard lessons.

Snowmass Village - Village Mall Lodging
Accommodations located near the
Snowmass Village Mall are also very well located. The mall is situated part way up the Fanny Hill run and is the main hub of shops, restaurants and bars, and it also has the transit center for RFTA buses to Aspen. So if off-slope activities are more of a priority than getting the kids to the Treehouse Adventure Kids’ Center, then staying here will be perfect.

Aspen Highland Lodging
If nightlife and a multitude of shopping opportunities isn’t a high priority, you could also stay at the base area of
Aspen Highlands. The village is very small and the number of shops, restaurants, bars and other activities is very limited. Of course you can always catch a bus to shop or party in Aspen!
Buttermilk Mountain also has very limited accommodation options at the base area.
