Facilities & Services

Tyax Heli Skiing Packages
The Powderhorn ski resort amenities are reasonably no frills, but the facilities cover most of the basics. Powerhorn has a ski school for children and adults, ski and snowboard rentals, a retail shop, lockers, and a couple of dining areas.

Facilities for Children

Powderhorn Resort has a Children’s Learning Center (CLC) for kids aged 3 to 7. The CLC offers ski lessons, ski rentals, lift tickets, snacks, and play all in the one spot! For kids aged 3-4 the PEE WEE program runs from 9:30am to 2:30pm and includes either a one or two hour private lesson, play time, and snacks. For 5 to 7 year old children, Powderhorn offers full day group ski lessons. Reservations are required. The kids’ programs are outrageously inexpensive relative to most other Colorado ski resorts.

Powderhorn has a tubing hill that is open Friday to Sunday and holidays from 11am-4pm.

Powderhorn Ski School

The Powderhorn Ski School offers group ski and snowboard lessons in either 2 or 4 hour formats. They also offer private lessons for one hour or more, so you don’t have to commit to an expensive full day private lesson (as with some high profile Colorado ski resorts). Adaptive ski lessons are also available.

Powderhorn and Grand Junction Ski Rentals

Powderhorn Resort has a large range of equipment rentals available. They have lots of standard ski sets and snowboards as well as performance gear, fat skis, telemark skis, and snowshoes. They also have cross country skiing equipment for rent. The prices are really inexpensive relative to most other Colorado ski resorts, and they also have a ski-in drop off area for the ultimate in convenience.

There are also a few Grand Junction ski shops that have snowboard and ski rentals, and for standard gear the prices are even lower than on-mountain (if that’s possible!!). Examples of Grand Junction ski shops include Gene Taylor’s and the Board and Buckle (2822 North Ave).

Powderhorn Retail Shop

The Alpine Trader in the base lodge has two parts to the shop. The ski and snowboard shop is reasonably small, but it’s packed with an abundance of goodies. The shop has some outerwear (snow jackets and pants) and lots of ski and snowboard accessories such as goggles, socks, and beanies.

Next door is a souvenir outlet that sells various Powderhorn logo items such as hoodies, stickers, and mugs.

Eating On Mountain

The Sunset Grille & Bar is a large cafeteria at the base area with the usual cafeteria fare as well as healthy options such as fruit. Outdoors is a large deck area that is perfectly situated to catch some rays. On weekends they have a BBQ Grill where you can grab a burger, a brat sausage, and beverages.

The Slopeside Grille (formerly Inn at Wildewood) is a cute little pub at the base where you can get inexpensive drinks and a good feed from Friday to Sunday.

The Ski Patrol hut at the top of the double chair sells basic beverages.

The base lodge has a specific brown baggers area downstairs near the lockers, and there is also a picnic area at the top of the Take Four lift.
