Greenland Heli Skiing
8 Day Heliski Packages in Arctic East Greenland
Overview
In Greenland, Powderhounds partner Arctic Heli Skiing is proud to work with legendary heli ski guide and explorer Kevin Boekholt in offering exclusive heli ski adventures on the east coast of the world's largest island. The region of Ammassalik covers an area of approximately 250,000 km2 and is well known for its jagged peaks, deep fjords and unique Inuit culture that was only interrupted about a hundred years ago by European explorers for the first time. The local population of only about 2,500 people in the entire region is very proud of this heritage and has maintained many traditional ways, such as hunting using dog sleds for transportation and travel.
The nature of the area is also no less than spectacular with a large number of marine mammals such as whales, seals and polar bears roaming this majestic region. What this means for you is thousands of peaks and slopes to explore and ski, in a landscape, nature and culture like no other, where untouched snow capped peaks tower over the frozen landscapes of towering icebergs, fjords and islands. Greenland is, and will continue to be one of the world's most special places to go heliskiing.
Operating for the past 18 seasons in Greenland, you are invited to participate in a true adventure of exploration and discovery. First descents, naming runs and visiting peaks that have never seen a human being before is what you will experience along with outstanding professional service and a cultural experience of a lifetime.
The season in Greenland is the same as Iceland from March through June. Due to the complex nature of organizing trips to Greenland we try to concentrate our groups in to late March to mid-May but if you have other dates in mind please do not hesitate getting into contact and a Private departure could be organised.

Ski Terrain & Vertical
The heli skiing and snowboarding fixed date program in Greenland is for 2 months during the spring from mid-March to mid-May. Spring is the best time to visit this region as there is more snow on the glaciers and the snow pack is usually very well settled resulting in less avalanche danger. The weather is also more stable and the days getting longer so even during storms there are more possibilities to get out.
The terrain options include everything from gentle glaciers, wide open bowls & steep couloirs. Due to the northerly location, there is no tree skiing in Greenland.
Average vertical is 6,000m/day (20,000ft) with one hour of flight time. There are 7 possible ski days with 6hr of helicopter flight time included in the tariff. The included flight time allows for weather interruption. Extra flight time can purchased on a pro-rata basis split between the group.
See the full program on the Itinerary tab.
Snow Quality
Temperatures range from -10 to +5 celsius on the coast. Similar to heli skiing and heli snowboarding in Iceland it is important to be prepared for any kind of weather. Frequent storms can come through so having a number of layers available is a good idea.
Snow quality is generally powder, however as with all high mountains adventures, mixed snow conditions can be experienced.
Location & Transfers
In Greenland, the Hotel & helipad are located in the village of Kulusuk in the country's south-east. The airport is a short distance from the hotel & accepts flights from Iceland & the Greenland capital. All ground transport from/to Kulusuk airport & the hotel is included in the package.
The Kulusuk Airport (KUS) can be reached by a flight from Rekyjavik Airport (RKV). Flights to Reykjavik from international origins land at Reykjavik's Keflavik International Airport (KEF), 45min by road from RKV.
The program in Greenland begins and ends in Reykjavik Iceland (flights are not, however, included in the price!). Iceland´s regional airline, AirIcelandConnect, offers several flights per week between Reykjavik (RVK) and Kulusuk Greenland (KUS). The flight departs around 11:00hr so it is important that guests fly to Iceland the evening before or arrive early in the morning at Keflavik Airport. Keflavik (KEF) is distance from Reykjavik, where the flight to Greenland departs, needs to be taken into consideration if planning to arrive in Iceland the same morning. Return flights from Kulusuk Greenland arrive in Reykjavik around 16:00hr so most guests will need to stay an additional night in Reykjavik and return home the following day, unless there is a late flight out. It is important to consider the transfer time between the Reykjavik airport and the Keflavik airport when sorting out flights.
PLEASE NOTE: Greenland can be very unpredictable in terms of weather. It is a remote location with few means of transportation to and from the country. Please be advised that flights can be delayed and you should be prepared to be flexible with your dates or at least be prepared to be delayed on arrival or departure.
Lodging & Meals
The program is run out of Hotel Kulusuk on the island of Kulusuk in eastern Greenland. The Hotel is situated right on the edge of the best ski terrain and we fly right out of there with the closest runs only minutes away. For more information see the Lodging & Food tab.
