Where to Stay in Cortina d'Ampezzo
Cortina d’Ampezzo is a stylish, lively town that has every type of accommodation to suit all budgets, wants & needs. Want to stay in 5-star luxury? You can do it. Want to stay in an alpine rifugio (Powderhounds recommends it) where you pay extra for a shower? Cortina ticks the box. It has everything in between as well. Situated on the sunny side of the valley at 1,220m altitude, the town is surrounded by wonderful Dolomites peaks, but be warned, in winter due to its low elevation the town may often not have snow in it.
The ski lifts bases at Cortina d’Ampezzo are spread from Faloria at the top of town, to Tofana down in the valley below town. And that’s not to mention the others at Rio Gere, Cinque Torri or Passo Falzarego! So, when considering accommodation in relation to the ski lifts, most just go with the idea that the centre of town is best, and walking, taxi, hotel shuttle or ski bus is how to get to the lifts. That said, there are a few options closer to the ski lifts, including ski-in ski-out hotels & some incredible alpine rifugi. Combine a hotel in town stay with a rifugio stay and you will have experienced the essential Cortina.

Best Hotels & Apartments in the Town Centre
Cortina d’Ampezzo has a host of accommodation options throughout the valley, but why stay out of town, when the perhaps the whole idea of going to Cortina is to experience …….. the town! Because you will want to spend the evenings eating out, staying in hotels is the best lodging option in town. Prices at a lot of them are surprisingly affordable.
We have stayed in 3, 4 & 5-star hotels in Cortina. Our preference was for the unpretentious, super affordable & centrally located 3-star Hotel Olimpia (but we are tight-arses!). Another affordable option is one of the best situated in the town, the Barisetti Sport Hotel. From a skier’s perspective, the Barisetti, located just near the main Tofana gondola valley station, is THE place to stay if wanting the best balance of ski & town access.
For more deluxe tastes, in the heart of Cortina with a sauna overlooking the bell tower, an immaculate 4-star is the Hotel de LEN. The best 5-star luxury digs near the centre of town is the classic Grand Hotel Savioa.
Other wonderful hotels in the centre of Cortina d’Ampezzo include a few in the traditional style but thoroughly modernised, including the Hotel Cortina & Parc Hotel Victoria. A lovely boutique hotel with a quirky theme & interior in the pedestrian zone is the Ambra Cortina Luxury&Fashion Hotel. On the fringes of town, apartments are good in the Radisson Residences Savoia Palace. Otherwise, quiet locations just out of the hustle & bustle of the town worth looking at are the Boutique Hotel Villa Blu, and the fancy Franceschi Park Hotel. Dotted throughout town are also numerous private owned apartments & houses available for holiday rental.
Hotels Out of Town
It is a strange quirk of the Cortina ski terrain that hotels out of town are more likely to be near the ski lift bases. On the road between town & the Socrepes ski lift base, the lovely & well-priced Hotel da Beppe Sello usually has availability for last minute bookings.
In the opposite direction, near the Rio Gere lift base linking Cristallo & Faloria is the quiet, well-priced Hotel Passo Tre Croci Cortina.
South of town, just a few minutes drive or hotel shuttle away, are some newer 5-star lodgings have sprung up a blissfully quiet rural location. The best of them is the Faloria Mountain Spa Resort Hotel.
Ski-in Ski-out Accommodation at Cortina
Set on the stunning rocky peak of Lagazuoi high above Passo Falzarego, the cable car ride up, history, views, food & hospitality set the Rifugio Lagazuoi apart from all others as a MUST DO. Other rifugi in the Cinque Torri area, also worthy of a night’s stay include splendidly located Rif. Averau (above Cinque Torri), and the Rif. Scotoni (down low along the Hidden Valley ski trail).
Of all the outlying villages near Cortina, the only one worth staying at if one doesn’t have their own transport is the quiet hamlet of Pocol. It is high above the valley & directly connected to the Tofana ski area. For ski-in ski-out convenience, check out the Hotel Villa Argentina.
