La Thuile Ski Resort Accommodation

La Thuile ski resort has lodging options that will suffice for most but, with a few exceptions, may disappoint the high-end of the market. The town of La Thuile is also set deep in a valley at 1,441m altitude, and flanked by precipitous mountains on three sides. As such it doesn’t receive a huge amount of sun during much of winter. If you are after 5-star accommodation, you will be better off in Courmayeur. Having established a relatively gloomy picture of the town, we need to add that anyone seeking well-priced accommodations at an awesome ski hill will be more than satisfied with what is on offer. There are some fantastic ski-in ski-out options too. Several hotels have been tastefully renovated in recent years improving the overall standard of accommodations immensely.

At the base of the lifts, a range of aging (and let’s face it - ugly) multi-storey apartment blocks are immediately across the road. What they lack in style is more than made up for in location and facilities. A huge number of shops, bar and restaurants are sneakily located at the base of all the buildings under sheltered walkways providing guests with everything they need.

La Thuile's main town centre is a short 5min walk from the resort base. Hotels of varying style & quality, plus apartments, guesthouses and holiday rental homes are spread along the way.

Ski-in Ski-out Hotels & Apartments

Showing its age and in need of a renovation, the main apartment buildings directly at the base of the ski area, called the Planibel Residence Apartments, are as close to ‘ski in’ as one would ever need. Most apartments have great views of the mountains from their individual balconies.

Other, arguably better, ski-in ski-out options include the gorgeous Chalet Eden Eco Hotel, & the not nearly as good (but still fabulous!) Hotel Boton D’Or. Ski-in from valley run #6 (La Nouva), these hotels are some of the better choices in La Thuile.

Away from town, high up on the snow-covered summer road to the Colle Piccolo San Bernardo, the wonderful Re Delle Alpi Resort Hotel is perfectly ski-in ski-out from valley trail #7. The recently re-styled rooms are all one could wish for on a ski holiday.

La Thuile Village Accommodations

The village of La Thuile has a shabby look to it, but it is a real town, with real people and numerous nooks and crannies, hidden bars and restaurants. The ski lifts are a short walk (uphill) or bus ride from the town centre.

The hotel assortment varies in quality but settles in the 3-star range. An exception is the lovely Hotel Letterario Locanda Collomb. Of the rest the following are the picks: Hotel LTHorses & Dreams & Chalet Alpina Hotel Apartments. Another highly rated option along the river near the village bus station is the 4-star Hotel Miramonti. The Miramonti was once the closest thing in La Thuile to a luxury hotel, but despite still holding some charms, its place has probably been usurped by other afore mentioned hotels.

Other Accommodation Options

Aosta Valley Lodgings

Easy day trips to La Thuile ski resort can be done by car & bus from Courmayeur & Pré Saint Didier. Courmayeur has a far higher standard of hotel accommodation than La Thuile, however the public buses between the two resorts run infrequently & can be very busy.

Anyone with a car can day trip from Aosta. Aosta is central to all manner of ski resorts & is easy to link up & down the valley via the Autostrada.

La Rosiere Accommodations

If skiing in the French Tarentaise valley, La Thuile can be skied via the excellent, contemporary village at La Rosiere. La Rosiere starkly contrasts to La Thuile's village; with an elevated, sunny location above the treeline, expansive views, modern design and nearly all ski-in ski-out. There are numerous superb hotel options adjacent to the ski slopes, but you expect to pay more for the privilege. The French ski resort is generally more expensive than its Italian neighbour. To make the most of the skiing in Italy one needs to start early from France!
